Problem:
I just bought a Hyperdrive space to back up my photos while traveling. I over looked the fact that the device does not appear to have a easy way to switch the UI language from Korean to English. So basically I think I am stuck using the device in Korean, which is doable but inconvenient. The only solution I found on dpreview mentioned sending the device to China for reprogramming which isn't an option for me due to time constraints.
Question:
Does anyone have the same device and have you been able to solve the problem?
I have already contacted customer support but am not expecting a quick reply.
Any help would be appreciated.

I ran into a similar problem. I bought a wireless router, it had English specs on the box, but the software is entirely in Korean. Their website has a user's manual in English, but still no software in English. And the Korean software pages do not correspond entirely to the English versions; heck the English manual is 70 pages and the Korean manual is 135.
I asked the computer person at the school for help, working with my co-teacher for translation. It was hopeless. Never got it working with password encryption. So I am, of course, not using it.
I emailed the manufacturer's Canadian office for help, but never got a reply.
So a word to the wise: Buy your gear before coming here.
In the States, you commonly see multilingual instructions, menus, etc. Not here. Just Korean. My TV is all Korean, my VCR is all Korean. The printer I bought was all Korean, but I was able to at least get some of the software in English.
But the first step if you do have this problem is check the manufacturer's website. |

yeah, that is a problem ... but since this is an international company, i'm surprised the menus aren't multilingual.
but if you can put up with it for now, perhaps when you're overseas one of the shops can put english firmware on it for you.
you should also check out the parent company's website ... perhaps it's possible to download firmware and install it yourself.
however, thanks for pointing this device out ... i'm looking for a photo storage device and 250 gig is awesome ... this is exactly what i'm looking for. |

I did check out the company's website and installed all the latest firmware. This was the first thing I did and still everything is in Korean. I read a post on dpreview.com which mention that apparently the language for the UI is another type of firmware(which makes no sense to me).
As far as the device goes I am pleased. Its the perfect size for travel and it seems to dissipate heat quite well. For 160gb under 200,000 you can't go wrong. Although the Hyperdrive Color would be nice I didn't want to spend the extra cash.
Anyways, I am still on the hunt for a solution and I will post here if I find one.
thanks for the advice |
