I think this is ridiculous. School isn't for everyone. Making everyone stay - even those who have no aptitude whatsoever - is only going to lower standards further. Let them go work at Burger King and spend the time and energy on adult high school diploma programmes so they have something to turn to when they decide Burger King isn't for them. Canadian schools should probably be kicking more kids out, not forcing them to stay past 16.
They're also talking about fining parents. What the hell is a single mom supposed to do when her 17-year-old decides he's not going to school? |
You are correct, sir-that is why, even with all the Korean E2 bigotry, some 45+ year old jerkass shushing me on the bus Thursday while calling a bud to wish him a happy birthday [before he leaves on vacation-fed gov't employee] and doing a hand/facial tick after I shushed him back [and I mirored that action as well] it's not that bad-even if the interview nonsense is still in place come Sept [I'd bet against it], it's still preferable-and I am from Ottawa so no big deal personally to commute to Montreal.
Educational nonsense surprising started with Mike Harris' administration allowing any and all work to be handed in at any time-it's gotten worse with the McGuinty administration-even though I am glad the Liberals beat out John Tory and the conservatives and support for equal funding.
Why keep garbage in schools when they dont' want to be there-a few years working for 8 bucks an hour in the service industry will affect an attitude adjustment that will be of a net benefit to the individual and society in the intermediate and long run. |

I don't know why anyone would say drop outs in Canada are stupid. Most of my friends and some of my family are drop outs and they make a lot more money I do - on the rails or in oil. They make about three times more than I do and take about two months off each year during which time they live off of EI.
I studied my ass off, am still paying student loans, have paid for extra certificates, have moved half way across the world and they laugh away at the 6000 they pull in each month.
Good thing I got an education in Canada. Really good thing.
To be honest I should have quit at grade 10, got myself a trade, by now I would own a home, vehicles and toys - starting of with a ski-doo, jet ski then quad. Like my friends. |
