No it's not.

The Vista service pack beta is out. For testing.

The SP1 won't be available to the public until next year. At least that's what I hear.

IM in the midst of getting a new laptop. Is Vista really as bad as people make it out to be?

Found a pretty good deal on a new Mac for 850,000 and am considering it because of all this ruckus with Vista.

Vista is fine!!!

Once you accept that you can't run a few old copies of software or games then it's a good OS.

I've been running Vista since March and it has given me very few problems that were down to the OS itself. Once I changed my nVidia GPU for an ATI one the driver issue which used to plague me has totally disappeared. So I'm putting the only real problem I had with Vista down to nVidia drivers.

If you have an older 'puter it might seem slower than XP. Vista uses a lot of RAM.

On a strong modern computer Vista is pretty slick.

But hardly worth the price that it goes for. I really wanted to go legit with vista, but I think I'll stick with my cracked XP until something better comes along (currently slated for 4th quarter 2009 - Windows 7)

I think Vista Ultimate is waaay overpriced myself, but then, you don't really have to pay for it. Wink

Microsoft announced that it won't implement the 'kill-switch' when they find pirated copies of Vista installed on a home computer. There are a few excellent Vista Ultimate copies on torrents. Permamently activated. Updates just fine.

If you get Vista, just don't get the simple "home" version. Get Premium or Ultimate. "Home" is crippled.

I installed Ultimate at the weekend. So far, there have been some flaws. For instance, it won't recognise my external HDD no matter what I do. Also, some games won't run properly.
When I tried to connect to the internet, it wouldn't connect either. I hope the SP1 irons out these flaws because it looks promising.

Vista has a lot of common drivers built-in to the operating system, but it doesn't have them all. Do you need to install seperate drivers for your external HDD and your LAN card? Lan card drivers should be on your mobo install disc.

The external HDD is of the plug and play variety housed in an enclosure. It had no problems on XP, but Vista reports 'USB 2.0 Storage device error'.
Also, the internet does work but sometimes it doesn't. It's a lot more temperamental than XP. I'm waiting for XP SP3 to see how that is.
