|

Ok, we're heading to the States in a month, and amongst some of our worthless possessions are questionable items.
I mean, things like software, videos, music that were obtained Korean university-student-style....ya' know. I know that I could 'sneak' some CDs among my legal batch...but I've about 1000 burned, sooooooo.
anyone go through Customs with no hassles about these items?
Shoosh,

Why on earth would you want to lug that many CDs around? The size, the weight... Do what I did- buy another hard drive and rip everything on it. Give away all the CDs to your friends at your farewell party. |

This last July, I took a whole bunch of questionable items back with me. Other than the fact that security is tight, lines take for ever, and it's all just a pain in the butt, I had no problem at all.
I took bean paste, seaweed, bundaegi, a whole mess of Korean alcohol. I had to go through a special line, but it was no problem at all.
I, also, took my vast collection of pirated DVD's, Playstation 2 games, and my chipped Playstation 2.
Other than the fact that my bags were ridiculously heavy and I had to buy a new suitcase in the airport and repack everything, it all went smoothly. I'd say just use a little common sense and you'll be fine. All you really have to do is claim that everything is your perwsonal copy and you have the original at home. That is if you're questioned, which probably won't happen. Just don't try to suspicious.
Good luck |

Yeah, we'll be Stateside as on December 8th.
Six years and change....nearing 30, and gotta finish advanced degrees and wife as well. No worries, we should be back in 2-3 years, that is...unless the Korean gov't doesn't theive our land.
Shoosh,

1,000 burned CDs? Holy shit. That's a lot of CDs. That's like 5 CD books. Considering I was severely weighed down just by two of those massive things, I definitely wouldn't lug CDs around like that.
If your pirates are mixed in with normal stuff, there shouldn't be a hassle. But if you have a massive bag stuffed with 1,000 burned CDs, somebody's gonna take notice, and think you're up to something. |

Last December, I went through 3 checkpoints between here and Australia. In my suitcase was a lot of fireworks form 7-11 here in Korea because fireworks are banned in oz. never got pulled up, if I did I don't know what I would have done. Just pleaded ignorance. Stupid thing t do but my little brother really wanted fireworks for Christmas. |

CD problems - invest ina DVD burner and 4.7 gig disc can hold about 30 albums at high bit rate - AT LEAST 30 albums.
I'm bringing 0 Cds and a handful of Dvds of MP3's made up from my collection. Burning some now since I've less than a month to go. It makes travel that much less painful.
Burn your CD's onto DVD-R or mail them to yourself.
Cheers,

Gotta agree with Joe on this one. Man that is just STUPID. I bet you if you did that on a flight to usa, you would be sitting in prison right now...ignorance is no excuse against breaking the law and endangering other people. |

Put a sock in it mate. Whats the damage a couple of 7-11 fireworks gonna do. Same chemical componants found on match heads. Not pressure sensitive. We're not talking fizzer rockets or anything like that. ......

Put a sock in your beak, Penguin.
At a high altitude things burn quick and eat up oxygen.
A single spark starts a fire.
Big or small, there's a REASON those things are BANNED from EVERY flight on earth.
Such laissez-faire attitudes from you and Just Because warrant some sense slapped upside your heads.
To paraphrase a line from DAWN OF THE DEAD, "you ain't just playing with your life soldier, but mine."
I want to know who JUST BECAUSE is because I'd never get on any public transit with that loose cannon. You too.

I would, however, it'd take days to compile all my CD's...and days of free-time I do not have. Also, I really don't want to have to re-burn all these CDs....
Farewell party? You over-estimate my shooshness....as I am unwelcome everywhere...

hear hear to that.
it's also highly illegal. if yu had been caught yu would have faced a minimum AU$10,000 fine plus a possible jail term. prohibited items are taken very seriously these days.
believe me - i worked in quarantine for 10 years and i know a lot about air travel regulations. please be careful - for your own sake! |
