A few years ago, I might have said 'travel'. And not package tour style either, mind you. Traveling of the the down-and-dirty back-to-basics $4 guest house-staying, unwashed for a week, dope-smoking, street noodle-eating, backpack-lugging sort.
However, over the past few years my attitude towards this sort of travel has changed substantially. The novelty of superficially visiting a place only for a couple weeks, having the same mundane conversations with Paul the 24-year-old from Manchester, taking cold showers, sleeping in shittholes, getting eaten alive by mosquitoes, squatting while I take a dump, and claiming to be 'rugged' and 'adventurous' when I'm still visiting the same Goddam places and keeping the culture at just as much of an arms length as everyone else. Truth be told, these days I find intercourse with somebody of the opposite sex, and the pursuit of it, to be a far more interesting (and inexpensive) endeavor and a more fulfilling way to get my jollies.
How about you? |

Comparing to apples to oranges here as the 2 aren't related unless you're a sex tourist.
Since I am not a sex tourist, I don't compare sex to travel.
I value travel experiences over sex as sex teaches you nothing, but a good feeling like a drug does.
To each their own.

Adventureman! Where ya bin?
Maybe you shoulda posted a third choice, like "a combination of the two." It's not uncommon for travellers to hook up w/the opposing gender while abroad(and no, I'm not talking about where a cash transaction is involved!).
As for the "roughing it" bit, if you're working in Korea, you should be able to pay a bit more so you can be comfortable while in Vietnam or Mongolia-a sort of middle ground between being on travels on $15/day and forking out heaps to stay at a Hilton. |

I have lived in several countries, including Korea, Japan, Turkey and Spain. If I say I prefer travel, then that means sex is less important, and for me it's confusing: I had some really good sexual experiences abroad.
But it also leaves out the question of romance.
I think it is really wonderful and sweet when two people meet up in a foreign country and fall in love. Moonlight, flowers, and sweet kisses under the stars. Sex, of course is included in the deal.
One reply to this topic spoke about how sex teaches you nothing, but the guy forgot to mention that being in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex( or in some cases the same sex), can actually teach you a great deal.
Meeting Beautiful women, or at any rate the right woman, can be so good.
So can friendship. I actually don't want to have to choose between sex and travel(why can't I have my cake and eat it? ) So I am voting for Love. I am sorry if that sounds too sentimental. |

Travel. Usually you can get sex anywhere, anytime. Travel usually involves planning and saving so it gives me something to think about it for a couple of months. |

This thread is soooooo mine.
I started travelling when I came to Korea five years ago, and haven't had sex in all this time. It does seem to be an either/or decision for me, travel as a substitute for sex?
I did Japan a half dozen times and she sure was beautiful and exotic but she wasn't very passionate and has expensive tastes.
I shacked up with Auckland for a month and she fit like a glove but she demanded a commitment if i was gonna stay and i wasn't ready to settle down so I took off.
I flirted with China and Thailand but got cold feet and things didn't fly.
I went back to my ex a couple of times, just for old times sake.
Mostly I went coast to coast with Korea, up and down and all over, getting to know and appreciate the underrated beaut, spicy and hard to handle sometimes, but cheap and easy to roll with, for now. |

You can travel to new places nearby almost anytime, wonders to be found not far away.
Sex can be hard to find if you want some love with it, having had both kinds and mightily prefering the latter with the former, neither quite so satisfying without the other.
So, while money can't buy the kind of sex I want, it sure can buy travel. |

It takes, on a good day, one hour from my house to emart and then one hour back. I live in Seoul, the emart is in Seoul. I find travel in around Seoul worthless. I stress out considerably. I'd rather sit at home.
I miss the good old days of my scooter. With the sex I was only talking about sex, no love. The love thing is wayyyyy to complicated. |

I enjoy both. The difference is that I don't always travel alone. |
