Hi all,
I have a flight to Bangkok on February 2nd for a weeks vacation.
I would like to stay at a beach resort and from what i hear, Pattaya is the place that would be most convenient. I don't care too much about an amazing beach, an average one will suffice. I hear the nightlife is pretty cool too.
Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels or other destinations?
Thanks in advance |

the nightlife in pattaya is pretty cool if you like depraved sex with yaba'd out teenage prostitutes. not my cup of tea but i'm not here to judge.
i'd fly to an island if i were you and wanted to get in some beach time. air asia has some really cheap flights these days, and that'd be 1,000,000 times better than hanging out in pattaya, at least imo. |

Sounds pretty cool to me
In all seriousnes, I will check out Air Asia. I'm on a budget though so Pattaya would probably be preferable. Hell, a nice hotel would do me just fine. Hanging by the pool sipping a beer all week sounds good to me. Anyone have any experiences of cheap but good hotels? |

Beeyee,
I will also be taking a vacation to thailand for a week at the exact same time and was wondering how you went about getting your plane ticket, such as who did you go through (agent, whypaymore, etc.) and how much did you end up paying. Ive been reading on here and have noticed that everybody seems to be recommending different things and so I figured I would just ask somebody that has already done it to get some advice. Thanks |

I would recommend Pattaya as a must see. I went there for a planned week and left after 3 days. There was only so much of the beer and women I could take. It is 24 hour debauchery on steroids. You will get decent enough hotel/B&B in Pattaya for 500-600baht per night with A/C.
I would also recommend Koh Samet - a 90 minute bus ride to Rayong then a 20 minute tuk tuk to Ban Pae then a 20 minute ferry to Koh Samet.

The beaches are very clean in Koh Samet. Do not swim in the sea in Patters unless you want to catch something that you have not already caught.
Do not book a room on Samet until you get there. Around 800baht per night with A/C. |

I've never been to Pattaya. No desire to go, either.
Why go to Pattaya when you can go to Phuket or Samui where you not only can get nearly 24 hour debauchery but also pretty beaches? |

I did it through my local travel agent. The flight was expensive at 800,000 but as it was one of the last available tickets, I was happy enough to pay it.
On a seperate note, after looking into all of the 'luxuries' that Pattaya had to offer, I decided to go to Phuket instead |

After years of travelling in Thailand, I figure Phuket is the best choice - for me, anyways. You really have it all in a place like Phuket - fantastic beaches, rural villages and roads to explore on scooter, food options that inlcude Indian, Vietnmaese, Thai, Chinese, Western, Greek, Italian, pubs, go-go bars, women, thai massages, golf courses.
Whatever you're into - Phuket has it all and offers a wider range of choices than say a small island like Phi Phi, Samui, Tao or Pha Ngan (although I like Pha Ngan). |
