I watched 'Rise of the Footsoldier' last night and while it was kind of entertaining, all the characters were steroid monkey cokeheads and/ or weasels and not enough of them died to make it really satisfying.
It wallowed in gratuitous gore; the same triple murder was shown like three times at the end. Here's what it looked like if A did it; here's what it would've looked like it if B did it; now here's C doing it...it was just idiotic. I actually laughed out loud, it was so over the top.
The general theme seemed to 'ooo, look at us, we're such hard gangsters, ooo, and we like football, yay us, we're steroidy chavs.'
What a load of rotten pig's milk. Apparently the book was better.
Now, I'm just done with 'Eastern Promises,' about equally horrible people doing even worse stuff to each other. This, on the other hand, is art. And no, it's not art because Viggo gets his junk out. It's Cronenberg, so it's hideous, and brilliant, and so dark and nasty it makes all the light just kind of fall into it.
I need to watch some Doraemon cartoons now or else I'm gonna have nightmares.
So: anybody watch anything worth watching lately? |

Well said. I wonder if Viggo has become Cronenberg's muse, ala early Scorsese/ DeNiro. I really want to see No Country for Old Men, but my hookup doesn't have a half decent copy yet. |

No Country for Old Men is good, but the end is kind've blah. I watched room 1408 last night and it better than I expected. Not great, but better than I thought it would be. |
