I was checking weather forecasts in Thailand and it shows the southern Islands of Ko Samui having thunder storms each day for the next 9 days.

When I took a look at Bangkok, I got a better forecast, but not clear blue sky sunny days.

Is the weather nice in January or does it rain often? I heard it's the dry season where you get lots of balmy sunny days, but the forecast doesn't look so much like that. Might all this rain be a fluke and then go away in the next week or two? Are water spout tornadoes common in the southern islands? |

I don't remember it raining once when I was there in February. I know it's NOT monsoon season. |

It's cool season so no rain normally.
However down by the sea things can always change. |

spliff is right. December / January are consistently the best time to visit Thailand. If it's raining in Ko Samui / Tao / Pha Ngan, simply get a bus to the west coast (Krabi, Ko Lanta, Phuket, Khao Lak etc). |

Go to the Similan Islands if you like snorkeling or scuba. |
