| Third, there's no reason to attack Homer for trying to help. He made a constructive comment based on something posted with very little information. That fact that the OP even failed to explain what the thread was truly his own fault. |
i'd agree with that if Homer had actually read everything the OP wrote. did he read that the wives went along? hm... based on his advice, no. way to skim. |

Funny, I don't see that. Here are the first two posts he made.
The post that started the thread:

That's what 2 separate foreign friends were told on 2 separate occasions when applying for an F5visa in Daegu.
'Don't bother. It's not necessary.'
How's that for lazy? |
His reply snarky reply to my suggestion:

the eye,
The easiest way to get one is if you are married to a Korean. If not, yes it will probably be difficult. Give us some details why you think you can't. The post is a little vague. |
When did i say it was about me?
It's about 2 foreign friends, married to Korean women for more than 5 years who were denied visas because immigration said ut wasn't necessary.
He didn't even take the service number slip from their hands. |

Oh my gaaaawd. I posted something i thought was interesting and truly indicative of how things operate there. Question my motives?
Good connection, considering you couldn't understand the few simple sentences i made in the first place.
I didn't vent, i didn't even complain.
I simply posted a few sentences, and a comment. |
At first, it seemed like you were asking for suggestions and many people gave it. In reply to that, you chose to be snarky, then it started sounding like the usual Dave's ESL whinefest.
| the eye wrote: |
You're right. My friends are perfectly capable of solving their own problems. I never said they were looking for answers. I don't know how you got the idea that I was coming here for advice.
When did i ask such a thing? |
Your probably right, I mean why would people offer advice on here, when people get snarky, bitchy and whine and complain.
| the eye wrote: |
| As for Homer, i was just playing with the guy. Anyone who's been here for any length of time knows that sitting in the chair until they are served, or lodging a complaint at immi is like fishing for trout in a well. Lodging a complaint surely hasn't helped in this case. |
Maybe you were joking. I rarely bother reading Dave's ESL much. I've cut back on reading on this site because it is nothing but people bitching, whining and complaining.

Kreist. i thought the immi turd made a hilarious comment and i posted about it. That's it.
Would you rather this board only be used to share info on where one can buy deodorant? |

got mine with no hassles - and yeah not having to go back to immigration is sweet as is going through the Korean lines upon entry at the airport.
However, I will need to go back to immigration when my passport expires in the summer - damn Canada and 5 year passports, why can't we have 10 years like other countries. |
It's amazing what little tidbits will brighten up some poor monkey's day, I mean year.... Like not waiting in line a few minutes once or twice a year.
Reminds me of an F series guy tell me I should have an E-1 because of the 'better treatment at the airport and immigration'. Whoop-de-friggin-doo! I mean, c'mon, I am not THAT important here, am I ???
The reason Canadian passports are only good for five years is you all never know when they will revoke your status as a country. |

So, what's your mod sock name?
You take a look a the boards and that's what you see? And you think I was also moaning?
Have it your way, then.
Right. Sorry, these things never happen in Korea. Yeah, that's what i meant. Er, no i mean, it's the same back in everywhere-else-ville. That's what i wanted to say.
Feel better?
Strange tho. I honestly don't see the negativity here that you do. I mean it. I see people talking. Some information, some bullsh1t, some drama and some decent comedy.
Can you direct me to any sweet flowery goodness you've contributed here?
I haven't noticed anything, and i'm not being snarky, really. I'm sure it was hidden in this massive whinefest we call Daves esl.... somewhere.
Homer, though, I swear i get a kick out of predicting the exact words that come out of his mouth. Like you could with Ward Cleaver. That was a great show.
At least now he has a new friend.

I think that this is indicitive of your friends rather than of the country. They should have found out solid information by phone, including a name or department of who to see, and then been very assertive at the immigration office.
I've never let some petty official take my rights. I can't believe that anyone would allow it, so I do suspect you didn't quite get the full story from your friends.
If that is the full story, then good grief, how will they ever survive?? |

Yeah the eye...my advice was really horrible...I advised trying a different immigration office or another immigration officer who might be more helpful.
How horrible of me...

| And it's kinda hard to see another immi office when it's the only one within a couple hours drive. That agent was the be all and end all of visas in the city. |
Not that hard.
Pick up the phone and get his supervisor on the line.
Call the head office.
Lodge a complaint.
Make an official request for the application through the head office.
There are options out there. That stupid immigration bureaucrat can be forced to help through his superiors since it is his damn job to do that.
Or..whine about it here...whatever works. |
Bingo!
Once they have the F-5, it won't matter if the lazy bureaucrat finds out their identity because he won't be able to do a thing. |

How about this gem from a while back?

No hate brother - remember, it wasn't me that said it was cruel to take a baby on a plane. That was you. The hate is all yours, my friend.

What is this, the draw your own conclusion club?
One more time.
My friends will survive. They did everything correctly. They will EVENTUALLY get their visas. It's not their RIGHT to have one, BTW.
I simply thought it was a hilarious comment and judging by the amount of people who hit the thread i'm not alone.
Thank you EVERYONE for your super helpful advice. I'll pass it on, even though it's not necessary and I'm sure there will be lots of singing and group hugs down at immi.
Everyone ok now? |
