Hello,
I am considering doing some Wii mods for anyone interested. If I can get enough people interested I will oder the gear needed. At this time I am just trying to determine how many people are looking for this. |

Of course. I would replace any messed up machines. There are a few specific Wiis that have a newer chipsets that I won't be able to do at all, in which case I wont attempt since it requires a different mod chip. I can determine the chipset by the serial number on the back of the Wii. Older Wiis and some of the new ones will work on the newer Wiikey mod chip, which will play all games, including NES emulators, and gamecube games. In other words, if you tell me the serial number I will check which board it has and be able to guarantee it. PM for details. |

What is the best way to keep my modded wii from getting bricked. I have a Japanese version wii, and not too sure which mod chip I have. I have never updated it, nor has it been online. I want to start getting some newer games, but I have read here and there, that if I get the newer games, then they might force an update of sorts, then brick my machine.
Any help/advice? |

It's hard to say unless I know which chip you have. Some will allow you to update the chip via software download. I would recommend not updating your Wii's firmware to make sure you don't brick it. |

This can be tricky as when you insert many new games it automatically includes and performs a firmware update from the disc (no internet connection required). Is there a way you know around that? |

That's why you should update the software on the modchip which available online (depending on the chip). You can find out which chip you have, just pop the wii open and compare it to pictures online. Just so everyone understands though, modding your wii means you altered it in a way that could possibly make it unusable in some instances down the road. It is a risk. |

On a somewhat related note, are there any issues with bringing over an American wii to korea, assuming all the receipts and such are in order? |

You won't need any receipts. |

I am 100% interested since American Wiis are so hard to track down. I would like you to mod with yaosm since that seems to be the leading one at the time; however most of the mods seem to be the same so I don't think this would be a problem.
As for the person worried about their system being bricked, that's pretty doubtful. Microsoft have been known to engage in those kinds of underhanded tactics, but Nintendo's online plans are way less developed, and they introduced a brand new copy protection scheme for Super Mario Galaxy. It was quickly cracked, and Nintendo could detect if you were using it, but they haven't bricked any systems. Doing so opens up the possibility that they accidentally brick systems that haven't been modded and expose themselves to a class-action lawsuit.
I don't think the initial investment for this (soldering iron etc) would be too expensive, so I do hope you decide to go through with this. Tell me if you do. |

Any estimate on the cost for this? I have been to places charging 100,000 won. Was hoping to get it done for half that or less than half. |

That's steep, but I'd probably pay that much. Where could you get it done? How long does it take? |

You can get it done in Songtan, just out side the Osan U.S. Air Force base. |
