I am renewing my contract with the same school and was told today that I didn't need to leave the country to renew my E-2 visa.

Is this right? I always thought that the E-2 visa expired after a year and you had to leave the country to renew it. I would really appreciate any information from anybody who has ever renewed their contract. thanks.

It's called "extending your sojourn". This is my third year at the same academy without having to leave the country. You can extend your sojourn within two months of your current one expiring.

You can "extend your sojourn" on the same visa? So, what, they just stamp your expiring visa?

Thanks for the info.

No, your visa expired 90 days after you got it. Your period of sojourn will be extended for a year by putting the new expiry date on the back of your ARC.

Yup, provide immigration with the proper paperwork and money (I forget if it's 60,000 won?) and you can extend without leaving the country.

Are you American? If you are, you will still need to purchase a multiple-entry visa (or singles) when you come and go. In their first year, Americans can come and go on an E-2 with no problems. If their sojourn is extended another year, they have to pay for the multiple-entry permit (or for each single entry, if they choose that).

Ahh, ok. Good information. I am American, and I am leaving the country for a short break after my visa expires. So, I guess I just need to go to immigration and pay for the multi-entry visa. Any idea how much that cost?
