Ladies and Gentleman,
I've looked and cannot find the information I am looking for regarding what exactly is required concerning the medical check prior to getting an E-2 visa and prior to leaving the United States.

Do I need a full check-up with chest x-ray, blood test, urine analysis prior to getting the visa? Is this something that is going to be coming out of my own pocket or will I be reimbursed for any or all of it?

If I must do all of this now--is there a form someplace that I can print out and have my doctor fill in, or do I need to have him type up such a document himself?

Is it possible to get my E-2 visa without the medical check, go to Korea, and have my school pay for the testing (a hypothetical question as there is no job yet for me)?

Thanks for the help.

The medical check is to be obtained in Korea after arrival. You must bring it to Immigration when you apply for your alien registration card, which must be done within 90 days of arrival.

There is a form called the "E-2 Applicant's Health Statement" that must be completed as part of the application process for the E-2 visa. It's just a series of yes/no questions. You check the appropriate boxes and sign at the bottom. Your school or recruiter should provide you with the form.

Great, thank you very much.

That's good. It seems it is better to have the medical check-up in Korea as it seems it will cost me less money. One thing, might this money be reimbursed by my future employer (I am currently searching for a somewhat reputable [or what at least appears to be] private school)?

All depends on what you negotiate. Your employer (especially if it's a hagwon) will probably try to stick you with the bill. If at all possible, get them to cover itand get it in writing. Put it into the contract.

I'm returning to Korea with my husband to do a second stint at a college. I feel that they're violating our human rights-- HIV testing??? and deportation?

I feel uncomfortable about being at the mercy of a, quite possibly, non-English speaking Korean doctor. I have been to some wacky doctors there. I've read about anal swaps & poop samples on Dave's. It freaks me out!

Do you think that I could get a medical check in my home country, have it notarized, blah blah blah and bring it with me??
Confused

No, you aren't going to be able to do it in your home country, the the "swabs and poop" tests are not real... that's just the usual freaks on Dave's.
