Anyone else noticed how these places are popping up like gophers in Seoul.

I discovered one in Hongdae in June. I was super happy. Now on the same street, there are 4. I also found some in Daehangno, Sinchon, 2 in Ilsan, and 1 in Guri. I also heard there are some in Gangnam.

Anyone else like those places?

Never been to one Ilsanman, but have seen a few around as well. What games do they play? Is it cool as a foreigner just to stroll in and check one out? Sounds like it could be fun. And a chance to do the language thing too.

Hi IlsanMan..

Any idea where in Hongdae? I saw one in Kangnam on Saturday, but one in Hongdae would be much handier for us north of the river. Have they got RISK there? World domination rules (obviously)!

Cheers

I personnally think Board Game Cafes are great. They are fairly inexpensive and an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. There are plenty of them by KonKuk University.

Never been to one, but word of mouth tells me that at least one has Risk. Sweet. Too bad they can't serve alcohol...

We have at least one (and I imagine many more) out here in the sticks (Incheon). The nearest one to me is at Incheon National University of Education - only one subway stop! Smile

All ESL teachers should have a whole swathe of plans here.

Get in agreement with your local board game place to have a "local ESL teacher vs all comers" Scrabble competition, once a week or something.

To stop the uni smartarses from memorising a thousand words, the rule is that a full sentence must be constructed with the word that is questionable.

Ditto with Trivial Pursuit (perhaps have a ESL team vs Uni team) and something like Scattegories (do they have this outside of Australia?).

HEHE

jae.

I guess there are even more than 4 in the Hongdae area.

If you leave Hongik station, and walk towards Hongik University, on that prominent street, you pass by 4 of them on your way there.

I have seen Risk at all of them, but never Trivial Pursuit or Scattergories. Too bad, those are my favourite.

There is one in Hongdae called Cosfe, there is a friendly guy there who speaks excellent english and will recommend games to you.

Cheers.

But no beer huh? You need a few lagers and a load of abusable mates when playing Risk! It's in the rules of the game!

How about roleplaying game stores? Anybody know if there are any of those in Seoul? I'd love to pick up some Fudge dice, since I've downloaded the free rules, which seem great. Boardgames are fun, but I'm craving some paper-n-pencil gaming.
