Without resorting to links which I wouldn't read, can anyone summarize why people are opposed to cloned food?

Nobody really knows the risks involved. Scientists say that eating cloned young animals could be potentially dangerous but that eating older cloned animals should be okay. The long term safety is obviously unknown.

And yet you'll believe whatever Alex Jones tells you.

We didn't know cigarettes were unhealthy for 400 years, either. Even that doesn't stop people from smoking. But we didn't know until people started smoking and after a long, long time accumulated medical science began to suggest the link. We didn't know 400 years ago chocolate and coffee were good or bad either. But after 400 years it seems coffee and chocolate aren't all that bad and not potentially dangerous. Darn pity if some wild eyed fear of the unknown kept people from developing the chocolate and coffee industries.

If people aren't dropping dead from the meat and there's nothing in the meat that has any biologically plausible way of harming people, then it seems silly to let the potential benefits lay fallow until every last person on the planet is convinced its safe. Seems to me the benefits of being able to clone cows that have unusually high milk yields, chickens who lay more eggs, cows/pigs that grow fatter on less feed far far outweigh the outside chance of danger.

What are you talking about?! I share pretty much the same opinion as you.

Some AM talk radio guy that sells DVDs and videos about the new world order. Basically everything from the Planned Parenthood to the plastic industry are all part of a one world government plan to enslave us and make us serfs. Basically anyone who dares set foot outside of the USA is part of the conspiracy. It's a real kitchen sink conspiracy.

Well, I broke down and googled him. Just as I thought, I spent several hours much past my bedtime reading about the absolutely silly ideas he spits.

Reminds me of a dude I used to listen to many, many years ago as a junior/high school student. Art Bell, I think his name was. Always talking about Area 51 and so on.

Have you eaten pork since 1970? I have and apart from an apparent addiction to bacon I'm fine. So is everyone else. Tweaking the genes so that sows have 50-75% more piglets a year has created problems with waste and changed the way pig farms are managed, but it has also allowed pork to be more affordable and allowed farmers to make more money.

Progress is always has positive and negative aspects. I too am worried about unintended consequences, but short of transgenic grains that turn everyone into zombies I think we'll survive.

Also, kudos to Ya-ta for throwing down "Ludditism." Let's hope this continues and someone will have the chance to appropriately use "Malthusian."

For me, 1) his claim about the kansas city inland port 2) his claims about the logan act. Your recent one about a republican burning man being satan worship is over the top silliness. I don't even want to get into his misinformation about vaccinations.

For the record, Art Bell's shows were really quite different from Alex Jones Idea

Art Bell was all about UFOs & the paranormal. Alex Jones doesn't talk about htis at all.

He's more into things like "EXPOSING" the NEW WORLD ORDER, election corruption, rise of the police state, matrix technology & destruction of the Bill Of Rights.
