All the shows people have mentioned are right up there, but the Wire is the best because I've NEVER watched an episode of the Wire without wanting to keep on going. I picked up the show once season 3 was out on DVD, and for each of the first three seasons I lost entire weekends. I watched the second season almost straight through, that takes good tv.
The best tv shows I know of are, in order...
1. Lost
2. The Original Iron Chef (if only for the sea turtle episode)
3. The Wire |

| A lot of great shows. Just wondering what shows you would suggest on other cable networks such as USA. |

Here are my top 5:
HBO:
Rome
Carnival
Oz
Showtime:
Dexter
Weeds
Those are in no particular order. I like them all about equally. |

It'd have to be a dead heat for me, between The Sopranos, and The Wire.
Brilliant TV. Everything HBO has done seems golden, even their crap shows, a la Carnival.
Other favourites are,
Flight of the Conchords
Entourage
Big Love
Just getting into Deadwood now. |

| On USA Network the 4400 is my favorite. It's an excellent show. |

The Wire
Oz.
Rome.
But I prefer I, Claudius to Rome, though it is old and the visuals are dated.

Deadwood and Carnivale lose points because they were killed midstream. HBO sucks when it kills period dramas.
I can't believe I forgot it, but if you're looking for comedy Flight of the Conchords is hilarious and the only reason I picked HBO back up. |

I'd have to vote for The Wire.
Showtime has some seriously funny shows. Weeds is great. I can't believe nobody mentioned Californication yet. That's some funny shit there. |
