| Glad to hear that 64 bit vista is working well for you. I have run 32 bit vista on one of my machines ( a pre built Acer with more than adequate specs) t has only crashed once (no biggee), however internet explorer crashes all the time (stopped responding message) especially when on facebook and espn's websites. The root of the problem is a flash issue i think anyways, but it is still kinda annoying. I think the search function of vista is definatley better (faster), and windows movie maker is supposedly a lot better than before too. The only real issue I can think of with vista is the search for drivers for printers, scanners ect... Glad to hear that the 64bit is working well, my best friend just put together a decent looking system and is installing it tomorrow night. |

Well, here I am a month in and still no complaints at all. Odd that Superhero had that problem; I haven't. Hit and miss? Dunno.
Ultimate 64 still rocks my world. No going back. |

4 days until I get my copy with my new machine! The excitement is building and I find myself checking danawa a few times a day to see if the prices on the components I want have gone down!

I ordered another 2gigs of RAM tonight to make 4GB's. So, I'm going 64bit Vista Ultimate this weekend!!
Is installing a 64bit OS and drivers much different from a 32bit OS? Anything I have to watch out for as a first time 64bit user? All my components are pretty mainstream and new-ish. |

You will be pretty much good to go right out of the box.
Get your graphics drivers, sound drivers, mainboard (.inf) drivers and printer drivers (all Vista 64) ready, as those will need to be updated. You will have drivers initially, but not the 'correct' ones.
I made a folder on a different drive and collected all the x64 programs (and x86 that are supported) that I would need, just to save me time. After my initial install, I loaded then up.
There are a fair few updates for x64 already, so you will need to get those as well. |

i have been having problems with this. i am a bit of a noob in that this is the first time i have been mucking about with my OS. I have been trying to work my way carefully around the issues by googling the problem. It is my understanding that you cannot upgrade to vista64 from a 32bit OS. I am completely at a loss as to what to do. Try and Install 64bit XP and go from there? |

Boot from the CD and do a fresh install. The "upgrade" thing is true, but not true of a fresh install on a clean partition/hard drive. No problem. |

So, I too just became a member of the Windows Vista Social Club.
The install went pretty smoothly, except I'm an impatient git and reset my computer a few times during the initial boot-from-disk screen after it had loaded the background and mouse pointer and nothing else. For some reason it took about five minutes to get beyond that point.
Other problems...my Anti-Virus software refuses to download, so I'm using the free AVG atm.
A few other programs didn't work upon re-install, but all the important stuff (esp. video) work great.
I've only got 2 gigs of ram atm so I'll be looking to upgrade that also, but for regular apps, everything seems pretty snappy.
All in all, at this point I wish I'd taken the plunge sooner. |

It does take a few minutes looking at only pointer and background screen before the Vista install kicks in. That's been normal for each Vista installation I've done.
I chickened out of my 64bit install. My PC is running beautifully right now on 32bit. I just didn't want to wipe something that's working so well. Sure, I accept 64bit would be even better. I'll take that plunge sometime soon. |

Man...that's tragic! I had a sweet install going as well when I wiped for x64, but I tell you eamo....DO IT! You have a good rig for it and hey...there just isn't any problems! All that compatibility stuff is crapola....x64 is as easy as x86.
Get the lead out man. you will not regret it, even though you are in a sweet spot right now...x64 is sweeter. Hard to imagine for you I guess, but it's true.
thunndarr...glad to hear things are good to this point. Get some more RAM...2 vs. 4 is a big difference. |

I'm so close to going for it. That X64 disc is hovering very near the DVD-drive. It's just a matter of time before I do it. Might even happen tonight. Probably tomorrow. Nothing at all to do tomorrow. I'm just waiting for a few torrents to finish (uTorrent is installed on my C: drive). |

Make an image of your drive using acronis true image and this way if it doesn't work out for you, it's easy to go back. Don't worry everything will be as smooth as a baby's butt. |

I've been 64bit Vista Ultimate for 5 hours now! No problems. Very smooth install. Touch wood.
I didn't realize that you don't need to use only 64bit apps only. You can install and run 32bit software in 32bit mode. Great! I can use any software I like!
Excuse me while I install some games to really try this OS out! |

I didn't know this either. Good to know for when I load it up.
