I want to book a flight out to Korea A.S.A.P but I do not have my degree / transcript. I sent it out to a recruiter in South Korea a month a go but have not heard a thing from her for over a fortnight now.

Is there anything I can do apart from keep trying her and requesting a replacement from my university?

How reliable is the post out there? as I was considering flying out and hopefully get replacements sent out to wherever I will be staying.

Korean directors seem to have a thing about holding onto your original certificates, to keep some power of manipulation going over you.. Likewise, when i first came over here, I sent my originals- they do need them to process your visa etc. But they did give them back to me when I arrived.
If you're in Korea working and they refuse to give you back your certificates when you want them, just call the labor board.
In your case, try to contact your recruiter to find out whats going on exactly. If there's still no word, call the labor board/embassy here and have them call your recruiter to demand they return them.

ah, mistake number one. shame you didn't read this forum and see all the heartache everybody else has gone through with diplomas. at least you didn't leave it on a train!

you can request copies, come over here, chase up the recruiter who has your diploma and then if you don't get them back at least you will get the copies. recruiters over here are notoriously unreliable. it is amazing that some of them stay in business and make money.

anyway, telling off time... would you send your passport in the post unregistered? no. would you send your drivers license in the post? i doubt it. why your diploma certificate?

i did send my degree recorded delivery - and i was told it was received in Korea.

Korea Post in my experience is efficient & dependable.

If you're planning to travel for some time I suggest you bring a couple of copies of each, your degree cert. and academic transcript.

My uni send original diplomas for $30.00 transcripts for a few dollars.

When I ordered my "original" transcripts and degrees, I order three of each. It costs a bit upfront, but saves a lot of hassle in the long run.

I am having a similar problem at the moment and am unsure of what to do about it.

I sent my original certificate to a recruiter but then found a position independently through this website. I requested an extra 'original' copy of my certificate from my university and sent it to the school I have signed the contract with. Unfortunately, immigration will not accept it.

I have asked her to send my certificate to the school I want to go to but she is now saying that the school I have chosen should pay her fees. As she had no part in finding me the position the school understandably think this is unreasonable.

The school are going to phone her up and speak to her themselves but if that doesn't work I would be interested to know how to contact this 'board'- if you can while you are still in Britain!

I am really starting to regret not getting a copy stamped by the embassy instead (though I was unemployed and therefore too poor to afford a train ticket and the fee to do that at the time!).

Grrr.........

Apparently not! They want the original or a copy certified by the embassy. My 'copy' is certified by my university but not the embassy. To get one certified by the embassy you have to show them the original too which I don't have!

I'm trying to look on the bright side! I guess it will teach me not to send important documents to random korean people in future! Laughing
