Several people have talked about what a great job he does. How responsive he is, etc. etc. He's never even responded to me, nor "pointed me in the right direction" as his website says...
Hmmm.. |

Try e-mailing him again? He has always been very quick to respond to me. |

That's the funny thing about ESL planet. When I was applying for teaching jobs, I contacted so many recruiters. ESL planet never bothered to respond. My job search was really long because I was picky. They finally spammed my junk email folder one day with an ad.
I didn't think they worked hard to find me a position. They found me one offer and I didn't like it. |

ONE MAN'S EXPERIENCE
I have had good experiences with Rowan. He has given me his time and advice for FREE, even when he did not have any jobs that were suitable for me (by his own admission). In this situation, where I am of no financial gain to him as there are no suitable jobs, he still spoke to me for 10 minutes and tried to set me up with some valuable contacts.
I like the fact that there is a foreigner in the agency market. When he posts on here, I think he gets criticized a lot for being an agent. I value his advice and appreciate the fact that he spends his time posting information that I would not otherwise have found out.
A good egg in my book. |

Ditto. While I didn't get a job through him in the end, he gave me some good advice and also offered to look through any future contracts I was offered. |

Rowan also did a good job for me. But with all recruiters, there are some crap jobs that can get thrown in there. I was pressured to take an ATC Kids Club job but stood my ground. He found me a great place, after I looked at his site and told him what I wanted.
I will use him again, he was very nice, and gave me a lot of information. |

Rowan is a really good guy. I will definitely vouch for him. I'm actually in the process of working with Rowan right now in trying to find my first job overseas. He's straight up, honest, and always trying to get me a better salary. He found one school for me, but it turned out they have paid late a few times, nixed it, and found another school in the same area with the good reputation. He listened to where I want to be and has actively contacted me regarding schools, documents, emails from teachers, and interview times. I've never felt pressure either, a pretty patient dude. More than I can say about other recruiters who vanish after not submitting to what they want. I know it sounds like I'm praising him as a Golden God, but this has been my experience thus far. We'll see how I feel once I step foot in the school. Until then though, thumbs up.
Personally, I think it's good to work with basically an "outsider" of the Korea culture because he's probably dealt with a bunch a crap from schools, people etc for not being Korean and working there too.
Rowan is a stand up guy. |

I dunno, I had a couple recruiters that other people here recommended highly ignore me completely. I don't bother wondering why. |

Well if there is a lack of response. It could be your credentials or nationality. Jobs and recruiters reflect the demand of the schools. |

There's something in that.
I've had prompt replies from Rowan throughout the job hunting process. I've spent hours (yes, hours) chatting with him on Skype, via telephone, and through email since October. I've had him run in circles trying to find answers to several queries. He really is a top bloke.
I also dealt with several other recruiters over that period, and I have to agree that they all have their own agenda. Money. Rowan wouldn't disagree with that. It is, after all, a business.
The difference, as I see it, is that some are willing to work for the cash, and others clearly aren't. I turfed all the useless ones that didn't appear to give a damn. |

I can also say that Rowan has done an excellent job. He helped me find my current job and it rocks!! I resigned with the same school for another year. He didn't make a cent of me when I resigned with the school but he still helps me with problems I have. He really is a stand up guy. When I leave this job in the future there is only one guy I will call for my next job and I know he will be able to find what I am looking for.
Keep up the good work Rowan and the guys at ESL Planet!! |

Spoke with him tonight about how's he's the center piece of a thread of Cafe. He described ESL Planet as a "recruiting agency with a pulse." How true. Yes, it's a business, but they offer advice, patience, and no BS. |
