They don't have to. Big-time drug barons have fairly safe channels for trafficking in large quantities. Their consignments are rarely subjected to any checks at all.
The coffee trick might work for the amateurs sending small amounts of 'stuff' through the post. |

sorry buddy, but i remember watching a documentary once, and in it, they tested this theory, didna work. the dogs still smelt it. their noses are pretty good, and dogs are rather clever lil beasts. |
