Is it possible to get an international driver's license issued in Korea? I exchanged my American license for a Korean one and am soon travelling internationally. Someone said they got a Korean international license but they think you may need an F2 visa. |

You can get one IF you have an:
F2 visa
F5 visa
E1/2/7 visa AND more than 3 years residence in Korea.
Most other visas also have the three year stipulation. |

Well, as I have only been in the ROK for a year with an E2 visa, I don't meet the 3 year requirement. In lieu, does anyone know what countries honor Korean licenses? By this I mean, in which countries can I drive without needing an international license? I just don't have enough time to get an international license from the US prior to holiday. Thanks |

I traded my Alaska license for the Korean one. I want to get my Alaskan one back but Alaska is being stingy with releasing it back to me. I want it back because I want to apply for a new International drivers permit.
Look online for International Drivers Permit for U.S. Citizens. You can not apply for an International drivers License, because there is no such thing and an international drivers license, only permits.
I don't know if AAA can issue one online. Try calling their head office somewhere back in the states and explain to them your situation.
If not, there are other organizations online that issue international drivers permits. You might have to fax to them a copy of your passport, Korean license, maybe even Social Security and birth certificate info. If it was rushed, you could maybe receive one within a few days. Or try contacting the U.S. Embassy. But we all know in what manner the U.S. government handles issues like this, half arsed, and uninterested, to say the least.
Nonetheless, please keep me posted on this as I am in the same boat as you. |
