Hello,

I've just signed a contract to teach in Seoul. I need to get my visa paperwork sent off and am waiting on my criminal background check.

It just occurred to me that a MIP I received in Corvallis, Oregon in 2004 might be a problem when trying to get my E2 visa. I was 18 at the time, 22 now, and as far as I know it is still on my record. I haven't received any other tickets.

Does anyone know if this will or will not be a problem? What do they consider a serious enough offense to deny a visa request?

Thank you for any help.

Posession is a drug offense so unfortunately you are out.

They don't really care what you were posessing.

You may get through on a lazy Immi officer but I doubt it. You were screwed by the new regulations, sorry.

You could try another state CRC, maybe this won't show up on your FBI check. Did you get fingerprinted?

There was no arrest and I was never fingerprinted until I got my fingerprint card to apply for the criminal background check.

So, even alcohol counts. That's a shame. Thanks a lot for the input, though.

Anybody else have better news?

Jurrassic82 - Thanks for the message, I feel a bit better. I'd PM this but I haven't posted 25 times yet and it won't allow me to do so. I'll post to the forum in a couple weeks to say if I got in or not.

Again, if anyone has further insights I would really appreciate them.

I'm from North Carolina where criminal background checks (state) are only issued to companies which are registered to do business in the US. You can't get you own CRC. I asked a friend to get it for me through his law firm and he did, without fingerprints.

It was clear, as I expected it to me...the only point of my jumping in here is that you don't necessarily have to have fingerprints to get it.
