Can I do a B.A. Barrackus through customs?

Gold is both negotiable as a currency (and you must file the declaration) and taxable as a good if you bring the real thing instead of just gold certificates (you get to pay inport duties on it).

Just do the bank wire or bring cash / travellers checks and fill in the customs declaration form. Painless, legal and worry free.

And as an aside: people returning to Canada after more than 1 full year (365 days) of absence are entitled to an additional $10,000 duty free (with some restrictions).

If it conducts electricity or is metalic it will beep when you go through airport security.

Last time I checked, gold was an electric conductor AND was metal.

Why stash it? so you can avoid filling in a form as you pass through customs?
For that you would risk losing it?

Has everyone taken their stupid pills today or what?

Oh, and BTW, your carry on bags are "x-rayed" and the currency will be seen. It's not like you are smuggling anything.

You can carry as much as you like, $1k, 10k, 100k or 1 million if you have the cash. Just fill your bag with it.

You enter your country. You fill in a customs declaration form for any goods you are bringing back. You fill in one more if you are carrying more than 10k cash. You continue on your merry way. There is NO tax, no tax declaration, no tax due when you carry cash.

Get real people.

geese....

DUH.....
