Korea will always manage to amaze me. This is the latest salvo on my senses:

Many Students Make U-Tern From Overseas Studies

That is actually a very interesting article.

Quote:
One of the key reasons: It's easier to graduate here. At the same time, higher tuition and living costs are forcing them to quit overseas studies. And local companies' favoritism of graduates from overseas schools is also fading.
They attributed the trend to the different systems between Korean universities and those in the U.S., Canada and Australia.

``It's rather easier for Korean students to enter overseas universities compared to domestic universities, while it's harder for them to graduate from them,'' said Moon Heung-ahn, admission official of Konkuk University. ``That's the main reason behind the rise in transfers to Korean universities.''

Maybe they ought to consider why admissions standards need to be less quantitative and graduation standards more strict when planning the education "hub" of Asia?

It would also be nice if the students were expected to study. My uni gig was a real eyeopener.

Absolute crap. One of Korea's many national myths.

The article might be interesting; however, the headline ruins it. "Tern?"

While I'm sure things like finances and homesickness played a part, the quote above really means many students are getting in that are not qualified, and find out they can't do the work.

I was caught up in a uni application scam for a few weeks. I was hired to help students write their application essays. It very quickly became, "You write the essay. How much do you want?" They were never ever for average universities either. Always top of the line.

We terminated our relationship rather quickly.
