Well, I think we should be more worried that nobody washes their hands, ever. |

Even if people do wash their hands, they don't do it properly for food preparation. They use cold water and an old bar of soap that everyone uses, which can be filled with nasty germs so this does more harm than good. And if they use the proper soap, rarely are they ever taught how to properly clean and dry their hands. All sorts of nasty food born pathogens can be passed on to customers. Deadly indeed! |

Wrong, this stuff can and likely will kill you:
Alphabetical listing of all foodborne diseases, pathogens and toxins
Amebiasis
Ascaris, Roundworms
Botulism
Brainerd Diarrhea
Calicivirus (Norwalk-like viruses)
Campylobacter
Cholera
Cryptosporidiosis
Cyclospora infection
Cysticercosis
E.coli O157:H7
Giardiasis
Hepatitis A
Listeriosis
Norwalk-like virus
Salmonella Enteritidis
Salmonellosis
Shigellosis
Toxoplasmosis
Trichinosis
Typhoid Fever
Vibrio vulnificus
Viral gastritis
There's not even a small chance that you will be "stronger" as a result of being infected with these diseases. I'd be much more worried about getting those diseases than the hydrochloric acid used to clean the grills.

This is a real feel-good thread. Ignorance sometimes really can be bliss (and save the comment about how happy I must be, okay?). |

I linked to Carlin because his point was that we shouldn't obsess over stuff like this and just live. Yes, standards are nice and I'd rather clean food than dirty food, but I don't want to turn into the neurotic person who obsesses about it and neither should you. |

Obessed no. Concerned yes.
Quote: |
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that in the United States alone, food poisoning causes about 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and up to 5,000 deaths each year. One of the most common bacterial forms of infection, the salmonellae organisms, account for one billion dollars in medical costs and lost work time. |
But it's time to get serious about one of the leading causes of death and this is often caused by food borne pathogens:
Quote: |
Worldwide, diarrheal illnesses are among the leading causes of death. |

Every year, it kills millions of people worldwide. |

I ate out at some meat place last year...I was the sickest I have ever been in my life. At one point I thought I was dying the pain was that bad.
I refuse to go out and eat at some of the low budget meat places. Heck I am afraid whenever I eat out in this country, as I never know when the unsanitary thing is going to come back and make me sick again.
I never heard about the acid thing, however, I was told repeatedly that I probably ate meat imported from China...which Koreans seem to think is loaded with chemicals, yet they don't ban that sh!t... |
