Free Korean Lessons at the the Jung Ang Dong Min Ae Jib.
Tuesday nights 7:30.
It's the community center across from the Changwon
Hotel near the hospital.
Then of course after class we meet at O'Brien's.
You can meet some of us at O'Brien's before class for a quick supper.
There's also a movie club. |

I live in the city and I love it here. It is not a party place by any means, but it is apparently the greenest city in Korea. There are parks everywhere and they are beautiful. Lots of places for hiking and a few nice temples and such.
There are two main foreigner bars, O'breins and International Pub. They are both downtown which I bet is where you will be living. Try to get an apartment that is high up or get used to the noise. We are on the 6th floor and it is very loud.
There are four main department stores,(Homeplus, E-Mart, Lotte Department Store, and Dae-dong Department store) are, with the exception of Homeplus, all very close to downtown. And taxis are VERY cheap. An hour will cost about 30,000w, 15mins 3,800w. Not bad at all.
We are very close to Masan (good for shopping) and about an hour from Busan. Seoul is 4-5 hours away, depending on where you are going. You can pretty much get anywhere from Changwon Terminal. There is no KTX or subway here only buses and taxis.
It is very clean here as well, I hear that is a problem else where. |

Not at the moment...
Where they are constructing the new hotel/residential/shopping complex next to the Convention centre there is a rumour that a Burger king will be going in there.
However considering that they just took a Mcdonalds out of Changwon a year ago I am not too sure about it.
Anyway, it opens mid-this year(with a Lotte Mart, KFC and starbucks) so we will see then.

I eat there about 75 times a year for the last 3 years and have never been sick from the food once. It is some of the best food in changwon.
However, the cook/owner won't be there for much longer so that might cheer you up. |

Agreed. Food their is pretty solid and much better deal than eating at a the Bennigan's or TGI fridays for your western fix. International Pub down the street isn't half bad either. |

I have an extreme diet beause of sports when I go and eat any western type food that is any bit oily, or starchy (potatos) I usually get sick as a dog. I eat mostly Korean food, plus at 2000-5000 won its a great bargain.
Its been about 2 years since I had a hamburger and when I did I spewed all over Daegu train station bathroom. I haven't had alcohol for over 15 months, KGB lemon at O'Brians.. I was sick from that as well. 2 days in the toilet over 500ml wussy drink. |

You should get tested for H-pylori, the symptoms are there. |

is there any sort of western-style breakfast to be had in Changwon? I know this topic has probably come up, but I'm sure everyone misses western breakfasts as much as I do. Thanks! |

Plenty of good characters here...
"O'Briens" and "I.P." are definitely the places to hang-out. Good mix of teachers and engineers, and people dropping-in from all over. Close enough to Busan for even more evening shenanigans and shopping.
Hiking is available if you are into all that fresh air rambling... |
