I've been offered a position teaching with a private elementary school and I've pretty much been told that I'll have to teach exactly 30 hours a week. thats not 30 40min classes, rather its a solid 30 hours, which works out to 45 classes a week. Is this the norm for private schools or should I start look elsewhere?

Also the pay is mediocre at best, 2,100,000krw.

edit: on the flip side though, the classes would be really really small, no more than 6-8 kids per class, which would really be ideal for me since it would give me more 1 on 1 time.

That is way more teaching hours than you should have to do as a private elementary school teacher. In my experience, you should be teaching anywhere from 25-28 forty minute classes per week. 45 classes is an insane amount of classes for that salary. You could definitely do better elsewhere.

IT is not normal, it is insane.

That is the reason we tell newbies to clearly get the definition of a classroom hour defined in their contract.

Just an FYI: a public school teacher with NO experience and only a non-related BA degree earns the same salary for 22 classes of 40 minutes per week and 20k per extra class (plus they get all the other benefits like medical/pension/up to 6 weeks paid holiday, airfare, housing, etc).

45 classes = double work load and 4 mil per month.

Say no that that crap and move on.
