If my contract expires May 13th, can I renew the contract before March 15th, or is my co-teacher being honest when she says we need to sign the new contract nearer the time the current contract ends.

I've explained to her we need no new documents if we renew before March 15th. She intends to call my recruiter, to check.

I hope she calls them soon, so I won't have to send the criminal check off.

You probably need to get it done before you contract expires. Otherwise you will have to do all those things that new teachers have to do. Why are you pushing it with the time? If you are going to renew, get it done now.

I thought the rule was 60 days before the end of the contract, which is around March 13th for me. I'm confused.

I got my letter from Immi this week and renewed today.

About a month before.

Haven't you worked out by now that your CT doesn't know what she is talking about?

I'm going through this as well (my contract is up March 18th). You can put the renewal application in two months prior to your contract ending. That's what my CT found out through the immigration website today.

So you're right about the March 13th, but you can do it then or Friday and will NOT need the CRC or med. check.

talk about by the skin of your teeth...

From what you said fromtheuk, your co-teacher is pain in the a$s.

Your principle has agreed for you to re-sign. I think that now that's been agreed you can work through and past March 15th.

I'd order your criminal check and then just say that you've ordered it showing them timescales (40 days) from emails etc. IF they ask for it then show them how long it'll take. They should be lenient when it comes to this because it's new. I had my subject access sent to me here after I'd started. I showed them I'd ordered it, and I just gave it to them (4 weeks) after I got it.

They might not even ask for it.

Hopefully your new co-teacher will be nicer, ask her to call immigration about it, when they start. I wouldn't worry about it too much yet.

Thank you everybody. I checked my contract last night and saw a glimmer of hope, I thought.....wow.........I can still renew before the new regulations!

Thing is........my co-teacher said she will ask the Principal if he will sign the contract in March and will explain why, but she said if he says no, there's nothing she can do.

If he says no, that would be totally pathetic.

Well in summer 2006, when I first renewed with my school, it was 30 at Masan Immigration. Who knows what's changed since then.

Who is your contract with? The school or the Office of Education? My EPIK contract is with the Office of Education so everything is done through the supervisor. I would deal directly with them when it comes to renewal.

I got this job through a recruiter, so I think it's with the board of education, I don't exactly know.

If the Principal refuses to sign a contract early, there's not much I can do is there. Because as long as he signs a contract in that 2 month period, I don't think he is doing anything wrong.

I may get a criminal check done anyway, it's only 10 quid.

There is a clause in the GEPIK contract about re-singing.

Something along the lines of two 60 days before renewal or non-renewal must be discussed.

Is it GEPIK? Does it have the school name at the top of the contract?

It has nothing to do with your recruiter, they're long gone on the beach in Thailand with the money they got for catching you in the first place.

With my EPIK contract, I got it through a recruiter but because I teach at four schools, which can change as my friend has been at six schools in his one year contract. Next semester I'm swapping one elementary, but I'll still teach at four schools in total. So I don't have A principal to sign my contract I would deal with the Office of Education, because they yes and no things for the new contract.

From memory, it is GEPIK. But I think he has to sign the next contract.
