At sometime in the next year or so I plan on going traveling with my very attractive Korean girlfriend throughout Asia. I am thinking like India, into Nepal, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, etc. I'm not worried about myself, but is there anything I should be aware of or worried about going with my girlfriend? I know Asians can often treat other Asians pretty badly. Are there any places I should avoid or be especially careful about? I've traveled a lot in Europe, but relatively little in Asia and she has only been to the states for a little bit when she was a kid. Thanks for the help.

Just remind her to not treat the locals like servants and you should have no problems.

I am not sure this is true or not, but I've heard that if you are not married you can't stay in same hotel room in China. I've heard that Chinese police knock your hotel room around mid-night to check if you are married or not.

this is a horrible thing to say but make sure she's ready to get the looks like she's a prostitute and has the ability to not let them get to her. and when they do get to her, be a good man and listen to her troubles.

This may sound like a load of Bs, but I have a Korean friend who's not allowed back into China cause he was caught bumping uglies with a Chinese girl.

In local drinking areas, some men could think she's a local girl and you could be harassed. In tourist areas there won't be any problems.

Hotels usually lock up by 11 or 12 in most places and have a nightwatch man. Most hotels have strict rules about bringing guests (ie. hookers) at night. Some nightwatch men might think she's your hooker.

It's definitely not illegal for an unmarried couple to share a hotel room in China. It's illegal to have unregistered people in your hotel room. Both you and your girlfriend have to register and provide your passport with visa to the hotel desk.

The friend who was caught bumping uglies with a Chinese girl was probably caught with an unregistered guest (illegal) who was more than likely a..............

Whatever rule that apply, it sounds like still very much a communist society.

I met people in India that would tell the people at the hotel they were married to avoid the weird situations that would arise. They never had to show proof or anything, people just didn't understand how a woman and man could share a room if they weren't married.

I think Chinese hotels are well accustomed to men having women who are not wives sharing a room. I mean it all started there.

You'd think she had a flesh-eating disease or something. Dude. No one is going to care about your girlfriend, regardless of how attractive she is.

Do you want us to write out your itinerary for you too?

In many of those countries people might thing she is a local. But, once she opens her mouth, that will quickly go away.
