I'm a U.S. citizen, and I'm currently finishing a contract on March 1st. My new contract begins on the 10th. In the event that I can't get the letter of release, My new boss has asked me to get the new documents. No problem, I thought. Someone said that I need the U.S. embassy to notarize my criminal background check. I had it notarized at the highway patrol and apostilled by the Secretary of State. Can anyone lend insight into this? Also, my background check was done using my Social and not fingerprints. That's Kosher, right? |

When does your ARC card expire? If it is before the 15th of March, you shouldn't have to worry about any of the new rules. |

It expires on the 13th.
That's what I told my new boss, but he called immigration. Immi told my new boss that I have to jump though the hoops cause you can't transfer from private to private now without the new docs. Either way, I want to be ready. I also want to accomodate my new boss. |

If it's apostilled, you don't need anything from the U.S. embassy. Also, a name search is fine; fingerprints are not necessary. |

If you've completed 10 months of a contract and your letter of release and new contract are in Ordnung, you can change your place of employment and extend your sojourn without the new documents prior to March 15th. Whether it's private to private doesn't matter; there are from-the-horse's-mouth examples here on Dave's who have successfully done it.
On the other hand, if your contract was only for six or eight months, you probably can't transfer to another private. (They seem more willing to bend the 10 month rule for transfers to public schools.) |
