Quote:
Twenty-two North Koreans who were turned back by South Korean authorities earlier this month after their fishing boats drifted into South Korean waters were executed last week and may have been seeking to defect to the South, sources said.

Authorities here triggered speculation when they made no formal confirmation of their repatriation. According to the Navy and the National Intelligence Service, the 22 were found drifting on Feb. 8 after catching crabs and oysters off Hwanghaedo Province, North Korea. They told investigators they wanted to return to the North and were sent back overland.

The group consisting mostly of workers from a fishery unit and cooperative farm in Dungam-ri, Gangryeong County, Hwanghae Province included three teenagers. According to the NIS, they set off aboard two rubber boats towed by a motor boat on Feb. 7, the Lunar Near Year, but were cast adrift on their way home while the motor boat went to rescue other boats the same afternoon, and were found by South Koreans in the early hours of Feb. 8. Thirteen of them were members of six families and nine others were their neighbors. "They were just in distress and wanted to be sent back to the North, where their families live," an NIS official said. The NIS sent the North Koreans back to the North through the Panmunjom truce village at 6:30 p.m. on the same day.

This is quite disgusting. All the pandering to the KJI regime out of racial solidarity and they treat the common people like this.

Stomach-turning, but unfortunately it's par for the course.

As much as I like Korea at times, stories like this remind me of what a screwed-up corner of the world it really is.

When will America invade them and bring democracy to the people?

-We'd never execute you for wanting to move to SK. But we might send you to the mental hospital for your own protection!
-On another note...I wish to God when the North Invades that all the foreigners who want to can enlist in a civil defense force. The idea of defeating North Korea makes me giddy with delight. I'm not leaving this country is I had a chance to fight the North. I hate that regime with a passion.

Well, they send back their ethnic kin to their death and the best the society can muster is a half dozen people in front of city hall. At the same time they have mass rallies about how terrible America is (and pop songs called "fuc.king USA") and on the anniversary of 9/11 ta boot. I don't know which way the bullets would be flying, but I would not want to be the white face in the middle of a North/South conflict.

I'd reckon jack a motorbike and get thee to an American military base pronto. Beg to get on an airplane out of there.

I know for a fact there are. They're cached all over the place, ready for all the reservists who have regularly scheduled training. When I worked in Taejon, the basement of my workplace was a local arsenal. When two Nork infiltrators were spotted on the mountain between Taejon and Puyo the reservists were called up to guard the various government facilities. For several days workers had to stop and be checked by armed guards before entering and leaving the building.

However, I don't foresee Koreans handing over weapons to random foreigners, no matter how much macho posturing they do.
