Way too much Korean bashing going on in these forums. I'm currently working in South Africa and you guys have got a lot to be grateful for.
For all the sins of the Koreans they're not out robbing and murdering. You guys/girls can walk about any hour in almost any place there with no problems whatsoever.
If we can judge a society to some extent by how the people treat one another then Koreans have a lot to be respected for.
Damn, most white people here don't roam the streets after dark. You get into a argument/fight with a local here and you're risking some serious injury, in Korea nothing much is likely to happen so you can all play tough.
Some people on these boards really need to be more grateful - Korea's a cool place. |

B.S. A friend of mine was walking home last night, slipped in a pile of spit and was hit by a drunk driver. Ok I made that up.
What's higher the murder rate in S.A or the death rate due to cars in S.K? |

I suspect the "death rate due to cars" would be higher in South Africa too. |

demi, listen up. Street crime in South Africa is out of control? It isn't in Korea? This is not really a "Korean' issue- it's an issue that South Africa needs to face and handle.  |

OP. Korea is a lot safer than South Africa - granted.

Cigarettes are more expensive in the UK than in the US. My point??
You get the picture.
As an aside, Take crime out of the equation, which country would you prefer to live in? IMO South Africa beats Korea HANDS DOWN.
Korea is still fun though  |

As a non-white South African woman I have to strongly disagree with you on that point.
The world was NOT better when apartheid was in place. With the dismantling of Apartheid I am able to go to any restaurant I want, any school I so choose, any beach I want to, live in any suburb I want to without the colour of my skin being a prerequisite.
And one day when I have children hopefully the only racial segration they'll know of are the stories I'll tell them of what his/her grandparents went through and how I remember trains that once said "Whites only" and referred to trains that non-whites had to use as "Third Class" (not even Second Class.)
Yes, crime is a HUGE problem in South Africa, I will not lie to you, but DO NOT EVER tell me that if Apartheid were still in place South Africa would be a better place.
Don't forget that the very crime that takes place nowadays is a legacy of the apartheid regime. Poverty crime in South Africa takes place on so many levels it's overwhelming. Child rape is just one such level. And please don't think that I am in any way condoning or even empathising with these rapists/criminals but be aware of the underlying layers before making brash statements like that the world would be a better place if Apartheid were still intact. |

I was also going to say Carmy that life has always been dangerous for black South Africans in regards robbery, rape, murder even moreso during the apartheid regime. It has got dangerous for whites living there nowadays they don't have apolice force soley designed to protect their interests.
When Americans talk about 'Affirmative Action' it had nothing on the apartheid state between the years 1948-1994. |

Precisely, and the media at that point were stifled by the Apartheid government hence atrocities committed against non-whites never made headlines never mind the back page. |

The Soweto riots of 1976?
They are just a few of the crimes commitied by the apartheid regime, no-one has seen a day of jail for these mass murders and illegal land grabs! |
