|
|
My wife gets these perms in Apkujeong that cost 300,000 to 500,000 won.
She claims that the cheaper places may not do a good job, don't use good products, and can easily cite my electronics fetish if I complain.
What does a perm typically cost? |

I think you could buy two or three wives for that much money in some countries... |

300,000- 500,000 won for a perm done at a high end salon in Seoul sounds about right. You get what you pay for with perms. So, I think your wife is right in this case. Hey, if it makes her feel beautiful and you as a couple can afford it, then I would just tell your wife that she is right. |

But I used to teach at a high school, and the Korean girls seemed to pay around 50,000 for a magic-straight perm. Are those cheaper than something with curls? Their perms seemed fine.
Are prices over $300 a Seoul thing, or common in other countries, too? |

I've paid around 150,000 won for a straightening perm in Cheonan at a Chain style salon. They did an ok job. I think if I had gone to Seoul to a high end salon I would have gotten a better straightening perm. Perms are very labour intensive and take a long time to get them done. Plus, the longer your hair is, the more you pay. I've paid 8,000 -10,000 won for terrible haircuts outside of Seoul. Now, I pay 25,000 won at a good salon in Seoul for a decent haircut. |

Nope.
She's not much of a princess on spending, except when it comes to perms and purses.
Her mom has some multi-million won Chanel purse. |

i expect to pay between 100,000-200,000 and the perm lasts around 6 months and is done well, but i have western hair
the same perm wont last nearly as long on my asian friends' hair and a few can barely hold a perm at all |

That's not an Asian thing, I had very fine blonde hair as a kid, and when that poodle perm trend hit in the late 80s, I discovered my hair won't hold a perm either.
To the OP, I don't really get the expensive purse thing, but it's well worth the money to pay for a good perm, especially in a place like Korea where the risk of ajuma permage is so high. |

With all respect to your wife, why do women think curly hair makes them pretty and why do guys prefer straight hair? |

don't they like running their hands through it? think it depends more on the curl type too...it's awfully easy to make a perm look bad[/quote] |

Wow, that's expensive but not unheard of. My hair is long and of medium thickness. I normally pay around $150 (including trim). I used to go to Headrush which was just so-so but I found a salon that I'm really happy with, it's called Zen. They have a few locations but the English speaking one is near Ewha University Station. Can't praise them enough! |

well I had magic straight done in Seoul for 120,000. I know someone who had a regular perm in Apgujoeng for only 30,000. I plan to go there myself one day.. |

OP
You need to mix some superglue into your wifes hairspray to keep it for longer. |
