I could almost bet that they are rural schools and they are including the transportation and rural allowance in there as well.. If not add those two on there and your looking at 2.4 I would put my money on 2.0 plus the .2

I was working in EPIK in Changwon for part of last year and I would hazard a guess that mehamrick is right about the recruiter adding in the rural and transportation allowances. There's no way they're going to change the structure cause otherwise they'd have to give pay increases to the teachers who are already there (in theory, of course).

As for the positions themselves, take the shot if you're a newbie. But if you've had some time in Korea either make sure that your school is one of the decent ones (ie. not one of the ones demanding you stay throughout all the school vacations just to give an ass imprint to your chair) or just find a decent hagwon gig that'll pay you the same or more with less hours actually spent at the school. I wasn't impressed with the school board completely changing the agreements they had made during the interview and before the job started especially when they chose to inform us of the changes the day we had to meet reps from our schools. Many people have stayed on and will stay on another year. For me? Nopers, got out of there after a total of 8 months and found another position that not only paid a bit better but also didn't have me sitting on my ass for 24 hours a week (22 forty minute classes is only about 16 hours so be prepared to spend a LOT of your time sitting around being bored senseless unless you get lucky and get a principal with an ounce of common sense).

Except the EPIK website starts level 3 at 1.9Mw add the two allowances 2.1Mw.

Busan is the only place that is not Rural.

If I'm not mistaken, the newbies who started in Feb./Mar. 2007 got 2.0 + 200,000W for rural and transportation. I'll check up on that if anyone really needs to know...

I was thinking more about it today and I think my friends got 2.2 for other considerations but that was including the rural and transport bonuses. And yeah, I agree with Temporary, never trust the recruiters. Not always because they're bad people or even trying to rip you off. But last year our recruiters were promised a bunch of stuff and given a ton of bullshit by the lying S.O.B. at the Education Office and so we in turn didn't really know what was going on until the very last minute. Essentially everyone says doing business with the public schools is safer and they're right it is in terms of being paid on time, pension, medical, taxes, etc. but they're wrong in terms of getting correct information and advance notice or even just simple basic consideration. All those things are really at the mercy of the Education Office and your school and it's very hit and miss... Evil or Very Mad
