HP, and I speak from experience.
The only laptops I have owned were made by compaq (I said HP because HP bought compaq). I never had a problem with them despite a lot of negative sentiments towards them. |

Very good aftersales on my missus Compaq even though it came from Thailand
Still would buy IBM/Lenovo - 1 years insurance and three years warranty on Thinkpads. |

You need to fix your poll.
HP and Compaq should be combined and LG and Xnote should be combined. |

Thinkpad hands down. Thinkpads are workhorses. I put my T40 through hell and its still working like new. |

I have a Dell and I won't ever buy anything from that company ever again.
Thinkpads are definitely workhorses.
I really like Fujitsu and Sony laptops too. |

My HP is still chuggin' along. They have far too much crapware loaded on, however, and speed suffers as a result.
The HP printer I bought has a lot of features, but the driver set is horrible (and has screwed up my ability to hibernate). I didn't realize how bad things were until I read about similar problems others had on CNET.com. I then started realizing all of the same bugs, which had appeared since I got the printer. |

I had a compaq that lasted four years but eventually failed on the power socket connection - a common fault.
It didn't wear well though. Looked four years old.
Nice thing with IBM is that they don't age cause they all look the same |

True, but they all look old and behind the times. |

I don't need blue LED's or touch sensitive volume controls.
Give me a decent keyboard and those hard wearing hinges anytime |

Agreed. A laptop should be small (12" or smaller) and rugged. It doesn't need to be flashy and pretty. |
