Astonishing new figures from the Pew Center have revealed that more than1% of the US adult population is in jail, while one in nine black men between 20 and 34 is also in jail.Compared with the UK, America has proportionally five times as many people in jail.

| Then if you count people with prior felony records, convictions and even misdemeanor charges (including DUI and traffick tickets) and prior stints in jail, that figure shoots up considerably higher.... |

I�ve posted those numbers for Blacks before. Also, 65 million Americans don't have bank accounts!
This is why I always laugh when westerners post about Koreans spitting or cutting in line.
Westerners should stop committing felonies and then talk to Koreans about cutting in line. Getting on your soap box and pointing fingers at Koreans about bumping into people when there are entire blocks in cities in the West, France, London, New York, Los Angeles, etc., where people can't even walk let alone bump into people is of course another typical example of westerners speaking with their cultural blinders on. |

we are all criminals. some get caught.
equally scary is how prevalent "police checks" are back home. one of my cousins is a personnel specialist/"head hunter" and relates that police checks are standard in hooking up employers with prospective hires. these days even a years old alcohol possession is enough to disqualifiy one from getting even the cruddiest of jobs. the same for credit checks. if you owe money and it has been reported by one of the agencies your odds of getting a job are greatly dimminished.
whatcha gonna do w/o a job? if you can't do one legally, your only choice is illegally...which leads to the criminal justice system, for-profit prisons and ever increasing taxes for those of us who haven been caught yet.

KoAmerican, heaps of Koreans engage in criminal behavior. The only difference is that in Korea, there is no real rule of law, so these people never get busted.
If laws were enforced, prisons here would be overflowing. If fines were levied, and actually collected, again the prison population would rise dramatically.
Also there are laws here designed specificaly to protect the scum in society.
That being said, the HUGE problem in the US is the prevelance of weapons.
I'm not American and I would'nt want to live in a place were every moron, wacko and crim and buy a weapon as easily as buying candy.
The average Korean has little respect for laws, but at least they don't have guns. Their weapon of choice is the elbow and SUV.
Just wait until North Korea collapses, huge amounts of semi automatic weapons hitting the streets.
No respect for law, pent up angry and frustrated citizens, and useless police plus cheap automatic weapons = DISASTER. |

America shows all of it's stats, Korea doesn't. More importantly, Korean cops do crap, and the courts actually force people to settle out of court for money instead of actually trying (sp?) someone and punishing them.
When you are not comparing America to Korea you are comparing Korea to America. Why not just talk about the one or the other on their own merits (or lack of them).
For the thread, that is not a good thing. I don't really think anyone with any intelligence would think this is a good thing. |

This is true, but the authorities in America are sometimes crazy and jail people for stupid things that Europeans don't bother jailing people for.
In Canada, there aren't so many busts with people having individual doses of marijuana. They go after those who traffic the stuff. The US also has that three strikes your out idea which England and Canada do not have. I think that is part of the problem. I am sure it is very bad in the US and something needs to be done about it. It can't be ignored. |

Okay let's be serious and dissect his argument.
Does he know something about North Korea that we don't know about?
How would collapse of N. Korea affect S. Korea in terms of semi weapons hitting the street? Its not as if S. Korea have zero guns. In fact they have tons of them. It is however, very, very strictly controlled. When a man attacked two military men and took off with their weaons there were nationwide hunt down. Hunt down was so intense that culprit actually surrender in less than a week.
