Friends,

Has anyone dealt with this before? Apparently I've exhausted all my postponement privileges and will have to serve. I wonder if my Employer will offer me paid leave plus airfare?

I work for a multi-national Korean company.

Your comments, personal experience, insight is appreciated

I am curious how you can be called for Jury Duty when out of the country? That is a new one for me, but hey your American...and that judicial system is pretty messed up IMO.

call them and tell them you presently do not reside in the US and that such duty is a hardship.

How did they contact you?

There must be some way to get out of that.

Take George Carlin's advice. Just tell them you'd make a great juror because you can spot a guilty person right off the bat.

If you no longer live in the jurisdiction of the court issuing the summons, they cannot call you to serve...just answer with your current address in Korea. This applies to state courts in the US...I don't know about Federal Courts, but I imagine it's the same.

Best thing to do is probably not answer the letter. If you don't show up for the interview for Jury Duty, I think the Court System will just find someone else in the neighborhood rather than send a Sheriff's Deputy out to Korea.

The US legal system is no more messed up than any other Western legal system. Please, you fucking pleb, inform me of what perfect nation YOU hail from, so I can spend 5 minutes and link you 50 examples of how messed up it is.

Oh, and grats on not knowing the difference between your/you're... ESL Teachers Sparkling!

IGNORE THAT *bleep*!

You're out of the country & unavailable.

While jury duty is great & all ( key in fact to a healthy modern / classic democracy ) aren't there a couple hundred million OTHER people living in country who are fully capable of participating, helping to make sound judgement etc? Rolling Eyes

Creepy US gov't shouldn't even have your info ( esp. while living overseas).

this is not to say i would even use these words in polite company, but the guy wants to get out of jury duty, why not present himself as the most abnormally biased person he possibly can?

it'd take less than 2 minutes.

Send an email with a link to this forum and tell them you believe everything here.

Might not be allowed in the country again though after that.

Maybe you can go back and send down that cop killing hagwon teacher. I wouldn't want to miss that.

Or just say you're only available for celebrity murder trials. At least you'll get a book deal.
