Alcoholics go to meetings

Man alive am I sick of someone giving me, or any person for that matter, sh*t, for "drinking too much". A person who CANNOT function, and I mean function in a very rudimentary sense (ie get up, shower, put on clean clothes, pull their shift, eat, sleep) then you have a problem. Some people need to exercise to realieve stress. Some people smoke cigars. Some people like to smoke pot. Some people like PCP, and some people like a half bottle of Cuervo and a couple soju chasers with their OB to take the edge off.

Too each his own.

I was a pretty heavy drinker before I cam to Korea, but Korea made me more so. Routinely having two bottles of soju a night, or instead, several glasses of Wild Turkey (a bottle every four or five days). I think though that was less "Korea" (because I absolutely LOVE Korea)and more a long work day on my feet. Even jobs I had in the states I had a couple drinks after work (two a day) but I wasn't teaching, or on my feet all day, or at the office 10 1/2 hrs.

Although if you were one who had a lot of Korean guy friends I could see how your SOCIAL drinking might go up a lot. My Korean friends for some reason, seem to be the soberest ppl in the ROK.

The last 2 nights with the weather being so good, I have not gone to the gym. After dinner, I roamed the streets and I have had 2 tall boys of Heineken, one at a time while doing so.

This tread make the thought of an after work brew sound dangerous.

I like what NilesQ had to say.

Dearest buddies,

I enjoy nothing more than a delicious glass of scotch (and sometimes a port and congnac) on most evenings.

It helps me relax in a noisy neighborhood and basically improves my mood.

I'm otherwise healthy - never drink coke, never eat junk, exercise intensively every day, and simply couldn't care less.

Wanna learn how to REALLY relax & improve your mood?

Try meditating in the mornings.

i do 20 minutes every day ( sometimes at night when i come home at night )

MEDi-tation = MEDi-cation ( i kid you not )

btw - i'm an alcoholic myself ... it's why i don't drink.

If that was actually true we'd only have to do it ONCE.

Been there done that, suffered the consequences.

People tend to get hung up on the term alcoholic. It means so many different things to different people. The better question to ask yourself, "Do I think the way I drink is causing problems in my life?" If the answer is yes, try to change the way you drink. If you can do that, my hat is off to you. If you can't change the way you drink, even though you want to, then it may be time to seek help.

Alcoholism(as i understand it) is so baffling because often the alcoholic will blame their problems on anything and everything EXCEPT alcohol. This makes for an often long and sad road to get to the point where they will look for help.

Good post. Yeah, the question is, does it hurt you? Health, money, just generally messing up your life? Sure there's fun involved in drinking, but sometimes there's pain too. I guess the person must figure out the good and bad and try to be sensible.

I agree with NilesQ's post, too, but would add one thing. People have to think about what the word 'problem' means. There are people who think "I get drunk and fall down. No problem." is true. I have a neighbor who drinks himself unconscious 7 days a week but it is no problem because it is only beer.

I've learned the hard way that the time to avoid drinking is when I want a drink. Having a drink when I don't care doesn't lead to problems the way drinking when I want a drink does.

Just so you know, the first time anyone drinks alcohol, they get drunk, especially if they drink enough of it.

There is no scientific basis for this assertion!

For awhile I was drinking every night, then I stopped completely for several weeks, then I started drinking on weekends again. Haven't had a drink for almost two weeks, and two weeks ago it was one drink. Just like at home, it goes in waves. Sometimes I feel like it, sometimes I don't.

It's too fucking hot to drink lately.
