Yes the situation surrounding the fur trade is China is sickening. If people were to boycott the Olympics to push for certain issues, one of the issues should be ethical fur trade regulation (if such a thing can actually exist) |

These issues like a mouse head in shrimp chips and a blade in canned tuna just throw gas onto the fire. I avoid buying anything Chinese if at all possible (often not possible).
I agree with the other poster. Vote with your wallet. Tell China to shape up or *beep* off. |

| I think there is a lot more involved in China than most people realize. We often look at what is done in other countries and judge what they do by the standards of how we do things in our own country. Culture needs to be taken into consideration when dealing with countries that are completely different than Western countries. It seems to me that if there had been more culture study done in Iraq there might not have been a war...but at this point it's too late for that. I think we can learn from what is happening in Iraq in how we think of other countries and how we think they should deal with things that we consider injustice. |

Chinese Open Fire On Hundreds Of Monks & Nuns At Tibet Rally
March 25, 2008
(MANAN VATSYAYANA)
Protesters have demanded the safe return of the Dalai Lama after the spiritual leader was branded a "monster" by Chinese authorities
Jane Macartney in Beijing
Paramilitary police opened fire on hundreds of monks, nuns and Tibetans who tried to march on a local government office in western China yesterday to demand the return of the Dalai Lama.
Residents of Luhuo said that a monk and a farmer appeared to have been killed and about a dozen people wounded in the latest violence in Tibetan areas of China. Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency, said that one officer was killed ... when police confronted ... a lawless mob in Luhuo.
The demonstration began at 4pm when about 200 nuns from Woge nunnery and a similar number of monks from Jueri monastery marched towards the Luhuo Third District government office. They were joined by several hundred farmers and nomads, witnesses said.
Shouting Long Live the Dalai Lama and Tibet belongs to Tibetans, they approached the office. The paramilitary Peoples Armed Police appeared and ordered the crowd to turn back.
Witnesses said that shots were fired and two people appeared to have died.
They identified one as Congun Dengzhu, a farmer, and the second as an unknown monk.

Why didn't anyone boycott the Atlanta Olympics since the USA illegally overtook Hawaii?
If there is ever a war between China and Taiwan, Taiwan will instigate it. |
There's also torture carried out daily by the U.S. in Guantanamo Bay. The U.S. gov also won't sign the international anti-landmine treaty. The Iraq invasion was declared illegal by the United Nations.
Then there's the claim that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were completely unnecessary and were carried out as a "test" to measure the devastation of the bomb. The U.S. also firebombed the rest of Japan (but spared Kyoto) and burning the country down to the ground.
I'd say, if you're not against the U.S. (and I'm not), then you can't be against China for carrying out similar atrocities. But you should state your objections against them. |

Tibet Monks Disrupt Tour By Journalists
By CHARLES HUTZLER, Associated Press Writer
LHASA, China - A group of Tibetan monks disrupted a tour by foreign reporters to Lhasa Thursday, complaining that there is no religious freedom and that the Dalai Lama is not to blame for recent violence there.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/26/world/asia/26tibet.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
About 30 monks surged into a carefully stage-managed visit to the Jokang Temple in Lhasa by foreign reporters.
They yelled "Tibet is not free. Tibet is not free."
They also said their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, had nothing to do with recent anti-government riots by Tibetans in Lhasa, where buildings were torched and ethnic Han Chinese were attacked. Government handlers tried to pull the journalists away when the monks protested.
The government has said the March 14 riots were supported by "the Dalai clique."
