I don't think so.
Admit it, you just want to be the only white person around! And when you see another whitey in a foreign nation, it pisses you off!
This concept ties heavily into post #7 Diversity and post #19 Travelling, but is important that you fully understand how white people view authenticity and experience.
In most situations, white people are very comforted by seeing their own kind. However, when they are eating at a new ethnic restaurant or traveling to a foreign nation, nothing spoils their fun more than seeing another white person.
Many white people will look into the window of an ethnic restaurant to see if there are other white people in there. It is determined to be an acceptable restaurant if the white people in there are accompanied by ethnic friends. But if there is a table occupied entirely by white people, it is deemed unacceptable.
The arrival of the other white people to either restaurants or vacation spots instantly means that lines will grow, authenticity will be lost, and the euphoria of being a cultural pioneer will be over.
Being aware of this can be extremely valuable in your efforts to gain the trust of white friends and co-workers. If you bring a white person to an ethnic restaurant and another white person (or group of white people) shows up, you can lose all respect and trust that you have worked so hard to acquire. Do your best to find a table with a divider, or ask the waiter to put future white people out of sight.

EDIT: The worst thing about living in Korea is the variety of exaggerated reactions to the fact that I'm a foreigner. |

New visa regs. I have 5 months left and I'm still pretty confused on if teachers are already in Korea, do we need apostilled documents. Furthermore, where do we get stuff apostilled - albeit Korea or in my own country. |

Naw...I'd admit it if it were true, and if I wanted it to be true, I'd move to the stix.
I quite like "people," wherever they may be from, but I don't intentionally head to Itaewon or the local cracker hang out with the intention of making foreign friends. And tho I have some BAD stories of waygukins causing me "trouble," I have stories of Koreans as well, but more (many more) tales of good wholesome fun with each group right here in good ole' hangkuk land! 4 years baby....and staying for more! |

Nationalism...
- the kids who point to Africa on a map when we play "where's Korea"
- the kids who "boooh" when I say "Japan"
- the men who hate white people polluting their bloodlines
- the folks who can't take any criticism
- Arirang and all it's bullshiat
- people thinking some K-pop tart is going to take over the world
- high school students complaining about Taiwan and Thailand copying K-pop without realizing that K-pop is nothing but a copy of Yankee-pop.
-my unlce-in-law who refuses to believe there was a Russo-Japanese War in 1905 because he never learned about it because it didn't involve Korea,
- "soccer fans" who can't name more than 2 players on the team
- Jeju is the "Hawaii of Asia"
And because I hate all of that so much, I absolutely love:
- students who realize Korea is small and insignificant
- kids who love Japan
- students who envy the fact that I come from Canada
- men who couldn't give two tosses about me being married to a Korean
- folks who are open to criticism and realize Korea has a tonne of flaws |

Yeah I should have thought of "Other foreigners/Korean hating ex-pats" as an option. |

Nationalism doesn't really get on my *beep* toobadly, cuz...every nation has it to varied degrees.
What does get to me tho, is an immigration office and a govtmntl ministry pretending to have (or know) all of the answers yet blatantly playing it as a paint-by-numbers exercise. |

The worst thing about Korea? That would be Seoul and all the people who live there, Korean and foreign. The foreigners are usually worse. |

The worst thing about Korea is it's so far from home, and the foreign friends you make all eventually leave. |
