The Korean Herald is reporting that North Korea is considering pulling out of/delaying compliance with the agreement from the 6 party talks. I haven't seen this news on CNN.com yet or any other major news sites. It seems that with the Kaesong incident, the missles and now the threat to pull out of the nuclear agreement the North is either testing LMB or just showing how much they don't like him. It will be interesting to see how much LMB can stand before he caves into the Norths demands to ignore their wrong doings.

But Lee Myung Bak has two choices:

~ He can join the US and Japan in trying to contain the North.

or

~He can continue the policy of appeasement that started in full-force under Noh Mu Hyun and try to be more accomodating to the Chinese and the Russians.....

If goes with the first, he runs the risk of alienating the North, pissing off the Chinese and the Russians while building up the military and instead of going along withe the control transfer of ROK military assets, will re-enforce the US-Korean military alliance.

But if he goes along with the latter option, he runs the risk of showing the US that the alliance is in fact meaningless and the US will continue to not only pull its forces south of the Han, but continue the drawdown of American forces from the peninsula.

But I think he knows that the North can't survive without economic and material assistance from the south and China and Russia are getting pretty tired (though not entirely) of propping up a regime that is seen as a huge instigator in NE Asia.

But at the same time, China can't afford to lose its most agile and reactionary buffer-state against so-called 'Japanese-American' aggression.

To be truthful and honest, I really hope Koreans can forget their hopes of ever reunifying with the North, they are just too far removed to be considered 'brethren'
