I have a break late July and considering Thailand. I heard July is the rainy season for that area of the world. Is this entirely true? I understand I can avoid the rainy areas by not venturing too South.

Any info on this would be appreciated.

Also, what are some spots to definitely see.

Is the Full Moon Party overrated or still worth it?

I believe you can still Enjoy the go-go bars when its rainy since most of them are indoor. Since you'll be going during the lowseason the girls will be asking for less

I was there last July until October. I had about 3 days the entire time where I sat around the room or just walked around in the rain. There were plenty of afternoon showers that lasted an hour but... there are plenty of things to do during that time!

Spots to see? Depends what you are into. I enjoyed northern Thailand a lot but I also spent a lot of time reading books on the beach drinking Chang!

I'm not a big jungle fun but considering a CELTA course in September after I finish my current contract. Is it still rainy then or does it rain all year round?

As far as beaches go. in July the rains are heavy on the Phuket side, but not bad at all on the Samui side. For Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Isarn, the heaviest rains are not until Sept and Oct; July has just enough rain to be a welcome relief from the heat.
In short, July is a fine time to go to Bangkok and Samui. Winter would be the best time for the county as a whole.

Basically (for Bangkok)
Mar, Apr, May, Jun - hot, hot, hot (April is the worst)
Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct = rain with flood in Oct.
Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb = fine weather, maybe even need a light jacket for 4 days around New Year.

Question above about Celta in Sept.
You just carry rubber slippers in case the streets flood.

Question about July
"Fringe season" where beginning of rain is a welcome break from the heat.

been there the past 2 summers in july and aug and had no problems with the samui side it usually rains either in the late afternoon or overnight, aug will be a little more crowded with european vacation season.

bangkok in reminded me of florida that time of year, rains between say 1-4p rest of the day is fine

Yeah I think I will stay away from the full moon party. A few friends of mine have said it is definitely NOT what it use to be.

From what I hear about the rainy season in Thailand there are very brief but heavy downpours that usually last no more than 5-10 minutes. So although it does rain it's not usually a steady, constant rain that lasts all day.
