Even if it wasn't gonna go out of business, I would leave.

From what has been said, it sounds awful. You can't be happy living like that. It's not worth it.

I agree w/ tompatz...also you should not cause any hassles, teach the "mom" class, take pub trans. As soon as you get paid next...buy a plane ticket for the next day. Have your stuff packed and ready to go. When you leave, turn in your arc card and make sure you tell the immy officer that you are NOT coming back. That way your visa should get canceled and you can start looking for a new position from some SEA resort area.

The thing about waiting for the next paycheck is he knows I'm leaving Korea. I told him when I told him I was quitting, which was back at the beginning of March. He knows I'll be in no position to fight him.

Yeah, i agree with everyone else..

This is a tough situation and I have been there...

But, everyone is saying you should run??? Chances are he just pulling this crap b-c he thinks you'll just up and leave Korea and not fight. Get out!!!!

Iam wondering if you do run, will you be able to get a new Visa when you come back. Don't you need a LOR if it's before the years contract???Does your Visa become null and void when you turn in your ARC???

Regradless of whether you pull a runner or not, he still has to release your visa to the new employer. Immigration askes to see the LOR when you go to process your new Visa.

Ive never done the runner, just always gotton my LOR's. You will have to leave in 2 weeks anyways though if your boss calls immigrtation after he gives the LOR. if not, you can stay here...but be prepared to fight for it, he could be a real ass about letting you go.I never had to fight for them as neither the director or I were happy.

My first time over I did the Hagwon thing. Big mistake. I got accused of everything but being a white guy. Director accused me of stealing my NEIGHBORS bicycle. I'm no thief, but if I were I'd look a little futhur down the road. Also accused me of coming to school drunk. I was told by my head teacher to not wear aftershave, they confuse the odor. Maybe that's why many of them smell like ****. That's another story. But the kicker was the very DAY I graduated my summer camp they told me they were only giving me one more month and then I would be fired. They then asked if I would agree. I told them to **** off. They just wanted time to find a replacement. So I stuck it in and broke it off. Wound up costing them 1,000,000 to get rid of me. I was back in 2 monthes at a public school and life is way cool. The kids are allright, the band is tight, and my girl be kinky most every night. DO NOT give back your ARC card as it will delay your return. When I left they asked me for it, but I told them I was coming back. No problem. But your current situation is completely unacceptable. Tell them you are staying, but go as soon as you are ready. Godspeed.

Shouldn't he run now? He just got paid two days ago. Why take the risk of working for another month?

I have a question: if I decide to leave but stay at a friend's place for a few days in Korea, is there anything my boss could do to make it difficult for me to leave? Could he screw with my visa?

he could screw with your visa so that when you do decide to leave korea, you would be flagged at immigration airport, but realistically this is a hassle for him, but he seems like an ass so i wouldnt put it past you.

take your contract to him, tell him he is breathing it, and that if he doesnt follow whats outlined in the contract your calling the labour board and the embassy on him. thats the worst thing you can do to scare him.

check your PM

If you disappear he may cancel your visa this will give you 14days to leave the country(could be ten). You should contact immigration directly to find out your visa status.

Also if you were paid two days ago I really don't know what you are waiting for. Your school has only 25 students, they don't have money to pay you!!

RUN!!!
