|
|
I have a PSP with custom firmware 3.30EAR+ so I can run homebrew and games from the stick. I want to change it to a higher firmware. I'm abit confused as what I should do.
Do I need to downgrade it first to 1.5, or can I just simply upgrade without downgrading?
There's tons of stuff on the net about it, but I can't be arsed to trawl through it all. Anyone know the short answer to the question?
Thanks |

If it's CFW then you don't need to downgrade first. |

I found the afterdawn forums the easiest to understand in terms of spelling it out for the techno stupid |

Cheers for that. I upgraded it 3.90 and have now found that it's very buggy and lots of stuff doesn't work anymore. So now, I have a new problem. I need to downgrade it back to 1.5, but this is impossible without making a "Pandora Battery" which means buying a new memory stick that I don't really need.

You know you can reformat the stick. You can even reverse a pandora battery. |

Hereis another pretty easy to follow guide:
http://www.pspmod.com/forums/custom-firmware/27074-step-step-1-50-3-90m33-guide.html
EDIT: if you upgraded to 3.90 m33 (custom firmware) youdo not need a pandora to downgrade your custom firmware. If you upgraded to 3.90 official firmware, then you do need a pandora.
If worst comes to worst, you can probably take it to a psp vendor and get whatever custom firmware you want flashed to it for a nominal fee. This is what I did when I bought my psp slim, it was only 15 000W and he put a few games on my mem stick too. |

That guide only seems to explains how to change up to 3.90, not how to reverse the process. I managed to get from 3.30 to 3.52 then up to 3.90 CFW without any problems, but now I can't figure how to go back to 1.5. |

A couple of questions. You mentioned "bugs" earlier. What kind of bugs?
Do you know about the recovery menu?
If not, power down. Then, power back up after first holding down the right trigger/shoulder button. If the main problem is inability to run homebrew, choose "Configuration" followed by "Game folder homebrew" and change it to "1.50". Afterwards, drop any games into your "game" folder. If you're having trouble enabling any special themes, you may need to set "use vhs menu" to enabled.
Make sure that you've followed these instructions first though...
http://freeplay.ircdotcom.com/fw/3.90m33/# (select "fat" then custom 3.90), but I think the instructions are as good or better with the downloads at the Dark Alex site.
I have 3.90-3 with 1.50addon2 and all my isos, homebrew, and themes are working for me.
If you really feel that you need to downgrade to 1.50, let me know and I'll give you some more specific instructions.
However, I strongly recommend NOT using this custom firmware...

...as it's a bit of a pain to get away from(speaking from experience). |

I've found that the 3.90 m33-3 CFW has compatibility issues with some emulators and it won't run PSX games no matter what I try. It seems to be a common issue that is most easily resolved by reverting back to a previous CFW. |

WRT the emulator compatibility issue, if you're getting the "cannot play unless you have a psp 2000 or slim", there's not much you can do if you don't have a slim. I've had the same problem.
I cannot say that I've tried all psxpsp games, but the ones I've tried are working. If the unpacked file is named "EBOOT.PBP", place it in a newly named folder and drop the newly named folder into "game" and it should work fine. |

I made a pandora battery and flashed down to 3.71 m33. Now I have no problems at all and all my PSX games run just fine. |

Yes, I think this is the most versatile firmware even though it's older. |
