You and flakfizer, thankfully, aren't the judges of whether the FLDS or the LDS happen to be Christians. Both churches revere Jesus Christ. That would tend to put them in the Christian camp.

Muslims revere Jesus too. So?

Muslims do not revere him as deity. Mormons do.

Christianity is more than just claiming stake on the name Jesus Christ to attempt to sound more mainstream.

So, you really think that's the reason the LDS church has that as the name? I'd dearly love to know who you think they were worshipping before now.

Again, I really don't mean to offend Mormons.

Well, you're doing a wonderful job of it with this post, without meaning to.

Quote:
I met a lot of Mormons in the time I spent in Arizona and even though they were a little strange they were very nice people.

Define "a little strange."

Quote:
Don't think I'd trust them to babysit for me or anything, but they were nice.

Why would you not trust a nice person to babysit?

Quote:
Frankly, I've always felt that the Mormons were borderline cultish. And I just don't trust anyone that isn't even a little hypocritical in their beliefs.

Huh?

Again, FTR: the particular group being investigated in Texas is not, and does not claim to be, Mormon.

Texas agencies probe abuse at polygamist sect

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - Texas authorities said on Friday that they were investigating a potential child-abuse case at a ranch operated by followers of a breakaway Mormon sect linked to jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs.

Bro,

I hate to tell you...Mormons aren't Christians.

Mormons are "below average intellect."

You are welcome.

Really, now? Perhaps you could explain then how a number of these "below average intellect" persons have managed to obtain doctorate degrees or how these people of "below average intellect" manage to succeed in busines, sports, science, etc.

That's actually a pretty short list.

I concede you're point though, as I'm sure we've all experienced with our Hagwons, everyone in management is a genius. The same goes for athletes, all top Rhodes Scholars I'm sure. Seriously, Scientology could claim a longer list, but nobody would say they're full of high IQ's.

No offense to the Mormons out there, but as someone who was born and raised in the Catholic church, I never really thought of Mormons as 'Christians'. I hate to say it, but I think there are probably a lot of other Christians out there that would agree with me. But then again, I've been wrong before.

Anyone who believes that Jesus was the son of god I think is a christian. Many fundies don't think Catholics are christians either.

Nope. There's more to that. Christians believe that the Bible is the only word of God. Mormons also believe that the book of Mormon is the word of God. That right there puts them outside of mainstream Christianity

The clarity of Harris' thinking is wonderful. His books have a logic and a force that puts things into great perspective. I also like that he does not deny the possibility of the mystical experience, but would rather divorce it from superstition and study it objectively.

What fact did he get wrong? There are quite a few Fundamentalists who do not consider the Roman Catholic Church to be a Christian group.

Yeah, and just maybe in your next post on this topic, you could try making a relevant comment.

The bigotry from Christians. Boy. Note the title of this thread. Thanks for demonstrating it. A real witness to your faith.
