Our school has a special advanced science class that meets after schools. As part of the program, they're required to have one or two science classes in English a semester.

Tomorrow is the first one and we're doing the classic Volcano experiment.
We're going to do the experiment in English and then the students are will answer some follow up questions.

What about pre-teaching? I'm planning to go over the materials we will use. I wasn't really planning on pre-teaching anything about volcano, other than a video. The main objective is for the students to see and understand the reaction between sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid.

Don't touch the anatomy model! Or anything else that looks expensive.

hahaha

Here's the outline of my plan...although it seems that no one really cares.

1) Volcano video

2) Overview of experiment/pre-teaching of vocab by powerpoint

3) Experiment predictions.

4) Conducting the experiment in groups

5) Follow up questions

Blow something up. Anything. Guinea pigs and kittens are good.

Or, if you have moral qualms, go to a 'how stuff works' site and power up a tv with a AA battery, or make a speaker from a sheet of paper, or charge a cell phone with a potatoe and gatorade....

Another idea is to make a Rube Goldberg machine. Provide a variety of stuff, show some videos so they can figure out the basics, and I bet you will be surprised what they can come up with. Break them into teams if you want...

Make sample fossils with plaster of paris. Just get some sea shells and cast them. You can also use plastercine.

You might also want to go rock hunting for limstone granite or fossils.
