My recruiter told me in my contract it says you have to give 60 days notice to an employer, if you choose to change school.

She added the law states if you give them 30 days notice before you intend to leave, it's ok.

This means if I tell my employer I'm leaving, this thursday, it is still over 30 days before May 13th, when my contract ends, which means I can still leave without getting into trouble.

I didn't know any of this, I thought notice only related to when you resign/quit.

So can anybody confirm this is right, do I have enough time to tell my school I'm going?

Certain answers are welcome.

The length of notice is left up to the discretion of the employer. I have seen everything from 2 weeks up to 90 days. There is a guideline the schools have from which they can determine how long in advance they want notice, but it is not unusual to see 60 days in the contract. Depending on the local, i.e. urban vs. rural you will see the variation in lengths of notice. For example, my public school has written 60 days notice in my contract as you have mentioned. This is the case if I am resigning for what ever reason. Changing schools is no different than ending a contract, except you may leave before your contract is completed. Not sure on your situation, but it is common in most cases.

I just spoke to another recruiter with better English. He explained it is common courtesy to give them 30 days notice. My contract states 60 days, but this recruiter explained he knows people who have changed schools just days before their contract ended.

a) If you are quitting early, you should give them the notice that is stipulated in your contract.

b) If your contract is finishing, you are finished. Say thanks and goodbye.

c) No notice is required by law for an employee to quit.

Thank you. I'm leaving after the contract ends.
