The first one sucked so badly that they need to try again? Or are they just going to see if they can outsuck the first one? |

Not necessarily impressed with it, but I can't say any of it is really a surprise.
I just hope they can find a compromise with the Autobots (as in what they actually are). This was one of the biggest let downs for me (as I grew up watching the cartoon and the movie) so I half expected them to use the "transform" sound ... hell I expected them to use the actual vehicles as well but as it turned out the movie (to me) was a really long GM commercial with a little action/comedy.
I'm curious to see how they will bring in other Autobots/Decepticons. I would also like to see if/when they plan on bringing in the Constructicons, Insecticons, or Dinobots. Probably won't happen until Transformers 3 or 4 ... if ever. |

In the preview I have above, it does show that the combiner Devastator will be in the next one due out in June 2009. |

The first film sucked a big one. It was half Spielberg, half Michael Bay. I was suprised to find the Spielberg half worked a lot better.
The film was just one long advert for GM and the US army. I mean really the Autobots - a race of biomechanical transforming robots from the planet cybertron with the ability to morph themselves into interstellar spacecraft have not been able to defeat the Decepticons after several million years of warfare.
Then the US military shows up with their "high heated sabot rounds" and "bring the rain"or some bollocks and wipe them all out. That really offended me, the whole point about Transformers is that the humans are there to be squished.
I am not having a dig at the US military but are they really more powerful than a race of robots who have existed and refined their technology over millions of years.
What could have redeemed the film was having the Transformers make the sound when they transform. Or having Optimus Prime kick Megatrons arse to the sound of "The Touch".
I am tired of comic book films taking themselves so seriously. I think that the Transformers could actually be used to tell a serious story (Hello - two ideologically opposed forces using a foreign battlefield to settle their differences, one to uphold freedom, the other terror cmon). It is hardly likely we will see the Regeneration trilogy with robots so they should have just made it campy fun.
I'm not a fan boy but there are moments of the cartoon that are up there with the naffest bits of the original Star Trek: "Megatron you Feind!", "Yes Bumblebee, you were magnificent!". I thought Transformers could be an alternative to the pompous comic book films infesting the market and could have been a lot of fun but instead was an advert for gazz guzzling motors and militarism. They should have had Soundwave turning into an 80s tapedeck. They should have had Laserbeak, they should have had the Dinobots and Predacons. The humans should be running around like crazed chickens whilst a robot dinosaur and lion fight each other. They should also have new characters: the bearbots-
Pandatron
Poohimus Maximus
Grizzly
Bi-Polor
and their leader Koalatron.
I think for the next film they should not be afraid to be a bit silly. |

To be honest I only half read that snippet. I couldn't care about a sequel to this film, hell any hollywood movie that matter. |
