Ok, im nearly at six months at my current job but I just got a much better offer somewhere else. They want me to start very soon. If I quit now, I will have to repay my airfare. I dont want to do that. If I get fired, I dont have to repay the fare. So... I'd like to get fired without doing anything strange or extreme. Any one with advice or experience with this?

BTW:

My contract says I have to pay back the airfare if I "terminate the contract in the first six months." If I give my 30 days notice today, I would be leaving at just over six months.

I am not sure if I would be technically terminating the contract now, or if it would be considered that it would be at the six month point. My guess is that I would be giving notice that I will terminate the contract at the six month point, which would mean I dont pay back the airfare.

But this is just a guess, Id rather hear from someone with direct experience with this.

If you gave your notice today, which would be before the six month mark, your boss will almost certainly try and get you to pay the airfare, even though you would leave after completing half of the contract. To be safe, I would give notice after you have reached the six month point.

Just make sure you get a letter of release and your visa cancelled. Until you do this you can't get a new visa for a new job.

I suggest you man up.

You signed a contract, now you want to break it. Fine, but pay the penalty.

You'd probably start crying if your employer was trying to fire you at the eleventh month to avoid paying you a bonus. Same thing.

Wow--- not honoring your contract for no particular reason, other than greed, is going to win you a lot of points. I think not. Pay the airfare, strike a deal and let your relationship end amicably.

Exactly.
Either that, or don't ever bother criticizing Korean honor.

Are you reading the same OP as I am? The OP wants to do the right thing; i.e., stay at the job long enough to no longer incur financial obligation for the flight over. The big concern is if the boss is going to try to say that informing the boss prior to the 6-month mark is terminating prior. It's not, provided the advance notice covers the time carrying the OP's employment past the 6-month mark.

Just walk in there wearing a g-string and cowboy boots with a bottle of soju in hand or something. Forget the whole "I don't wanna do anything too crazy" idea. If we all followed that idea, we would've never put a man on the moon or invented LSD.

You know, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your new employer, see if they can help you leave your old employer smoothly. It's in their best interests, really.

Are you sure? Just make sure you stage the firing to happen after six months have passed.

I was thinking that for different reasons (the OP, not necessarily this particular post). It's an continual drama fest from them.

You might be able to strike a deal with your new employer (as they know you have had to break your current contract) and get them to reimburse the airfare? Idea

Just remember, the new employer would be out of pocket anyway if they recruited you from overseas!
