Hey...
Seoul
Metropolitan
Rapid
Transit

How could something so cool give itself such an unflattering acronym?
What does this mean if we ride on the SMRT trains?
TMKATM, have you noticed this before??

WELL?

Hey katydid, you might not want to call them SMRT Trains. I live in the Czech Republic, and smrt means death. Shocked

I doubt there's a connection though. Wink

REALLY? That's very interesting. So in Czech, SMRT = death.

On the Dave's board SMRT = Andie. Smile

That map is very very cool.

I came across a similar one, but for above ground Seoul. Not as neat, but a nice way to look at a Seoul map.

http://english.metro.seoul.kr/

LHS column, click on "New Seoul Map"

You can pan, zoom around, get pretty close.

I enjoyed playing around with it, and you really get a good idea of the size of the bloody city. :)

jae.

speaking a little loosely, in sanskrit smrt would be a sort of past passive participle of the verb root "smr (to remember) and would mean "remembered"

I'm a little p*ssed at the false claim that we can "find out when trains depart and arrive at each station." When you look at the table, all it shows you is when the first and last trains come.

Then again, I guess "every couple of minutes or so" sums it up quite well anyways.

Usually you can stand on a platform, make a note when a train arrives at a certain station and they will usually arrive at the station the next day at the same time (depending on which line you're on). Try it out!

Cheers,

You can find out some pretty useless statistical information from that site too.

Like the 3 busiest stations on the entire network:

Gangnam - 177,406 passengers per day
Samseong - 154,187 passengers per day
Jamsil - 141,000 passengers per day

Also the pink line (line Cool only uses 6 cars per train, the others use 10.

Wow Smile
