Lil' Dan, IQ is merely a representation of potential. Individuals with high IQs can very often still go on to do poorly in academia and in life. My little brother and sister both have IQs over 130 and yet still repeatedly conduct themselves in a less-than-intelligent manner (low grades, poor life decisions, etc.). If your statistics are accurate, I would strongly say that Korea is a country of underachievers. Furthermore, success in life has much more to do with social and emotional IQ, which of course, Koreans are almost devoid of when it comes to understanding anything outside the peninsula.

The above link is better.

North Korea are the surprise number 3, and if you don't count HK and Singapore as countries, the smartest in the world!

How very, very true, and, hence, the reason why intentions like Danny's end up hurting him even more.

It's the proverbial you can't have your cake and eat it to: you can't talk about the glory of 5000 years of 'Korean' hsitory and refer to superior Korean intelligence when history shows that it's only been in the last 50 years that Korea has begun to not resemble anything as bad as Africa has to offer.

Where, for example, was superior Korean intelligence 150 years ago?

Danny, silly nationalism is never intelligent, not for Koreans, not for Americans, Japanese, or Chinese. Your grasping at straws, buddy...

People with high IQs have a higher chance of sociopaths.

Congrats to Korea. Your people are good at standardized tests. That is what the IQ test shows us.

I.Q is something that cannot be measured properly. The ability to do well on a standardized test does not equate high I.Q, but rather instead indicates training in the testing process. The I.Q testing procedure has been abandoned by most psychologists because it doesn't work.

The only way to measure intellegence is to measure how quickly and completely someone learns something new, and can apply it to situations and problems.

----Koreans have been taught from early ages to perform well on standardized tests using a computer scan sheet. If you give them tests in a different format, they usually have trouble.

Well, having lived and worked with Koreans for nearly 3 years, I'd have severe misgivings about a higher average IQ here - nothing could be further from the truth, quite frankly - but in any case, Korea's influence on our species in its past or present, for good or bad, has been minimal to say the least. Europe and former European colonies own you all. If Koreans are smart, they'd have achieved something as a people - contributions to science and culture for example.

Try getting a job that pays a single earner as much as the average family in the US, Canada or elsewhere for teaching 한국어. Never gonna happen. Nobody wants to learn the useless language of a totally insignificant country.

The average IQ in every country is 100. IQ means Intelligence Quotient, and is found by dividing your test score by the average test score, hence the quotient. So if you score higher than the average your IQ will be over 1.00 since the average divides into your score 1 time with some left over. (move the decimal of course) If you score the average score your IQ will be exactly 100. So you really can't compare IQ between two people who haven't taken the same test.

Even if everyone did take the same test it would be absolutely absurd to try and compare the IQ of people living in different countries with different educational, cultural, social, or economic backgrounds. It would be impossible to create a test that would be fair across the board. Results are skewed enough using the same test for all the people inside just 1 country.

Another thing is that different educational systems teach students different skills. In general Western education systems teach students problem solving skills and develop their ability to learn new ideas. On the other hand Asian education systems tend to teach students how to find the answers to finite questions and develop their ability to memorize facts. Although I personally think that the Western system is infinitely better you still can't compare the two head on as to which brings up "smarter" people....Koreans would definitely score higher on certain subjects on a test, but they would fail miserably if you asked the average student to write a 10-page essay, especially if the subject matter were something that didn't have a black and white answer. So it's quite subjective as to which is more important, especially when there are a multitude of skills that highlight intelligence which cannot be tested, music and art for example.

It is interesting that Korea ranks higher than Japan, which in turn ranks higher than Mainland China.

The Chinese look down their noses at the Japanese, and they both look down their noses at the Koreans.
